Hi! Ok I have no idea how long this is going to be and I am only writing when I have the time. :D
I got the idea from the video for One Big Family by TempleCloud. I suggest you listen/watch it cos it is a great song!
Here goes...
"Hey, Mum? Can I go for a walk in the garden?"
"Thea, it's almost nine, now go and get ready for bed."
"Exactly, it's only nine and it's still really light outside."
"No! Now go upstairs."
Fine. If I can't go the easy way, then I'll just have to go the hard way. I wait at the top of the stairs for a few minutes and just to be sure my mum is absorbed in the T.V program she is watching, then creep down the stairs to where I have a clear view of the living room. As I thought, she is staring at the TV screen. Great! That gives me about an hour an a half before she will come and check on me. Not, that I need checking on, I am 16 and not a little kid.
I open the big glass doors that lead on to my balcony and then close them quietly behind me. I take a deep breath and breathe in the fresh summer air. The light has begun to fade and the sky has started to turn orange. As much as I like staring at the sky, I am very aware that time is running out for me. So, swing my leg over the side of the balcony railings and then start to climb down the rope that I attached to the railings a few years ago. I usually hide it behind the flowers and vines that climb up the wall so no one will see it. When my feet touch the ground, excitement and adrenalin run through me. One because I'm practically running away, even if it is only for an hour. And two, because I'm on my way to the only place where I feel myself and where I can be alone.
After tucking the rope behind the bushes, I run down the slight hill that our house sits on and I don't stop running until I get all the way over to the wooden gate at the bottom of the garden. My mother has a lot of money and therefore we have a big house. Hence the balcony and massive garden. Once at the gate, I climb over it and look back at the house even though I know no one will be watching me. Now I'm free.
I make my way through the woods that surround our house, following the invisible map I created in my mind. After about ten minutes of walking, I push my way through a hedge and then swing under the old wire fence that was probably supposed to stop people getting on the abandoned railway track. And then I'm there. Standing in the middle of the old rusty tracks. I smile and hop from one wooden plank to another, faster and faster until I'm doing a full-out run, my laughter getting carried away by the slight breeze. Only when I know I'm getting near to the old station do I slow down. I take time to look at the trees that hang above the tracks, creating a sort of arc way, the grass and weeds growing up between the wooden beams and grey stones that make up the railway.
As the track turns a slight corner, the old station comes into view. It wouldn't look like much to anyone but to me, it's like a second home. The track splits into two and there is a platform on each side. There are no buildings, just the concrete platforms and a single carriage, like the type that steam trains used to pull. That's the place where I normally sit and read or listen to my iPod or just sit there on the dusty seats and gaze out the dirty windows.
But now there's something else there. Or rather, someone else. I'm only close enough to see that it's a boy with messy brown hair and he looks to be around my age. He's sitting on the edge of the platform, his legs dangling off the side. He hasn't noticed me yet. What do I do? Run back? Or go talk to him?
I don't have time to make a decision because as I step back, my foot hits the metal track, creating a loud clanging sound. He looks up at me, surprise showing on his face. No turning back now. He stares at me as I walk towards him. He stands up as I jog up the small ramp. I seriously think my heart skipped a beat when I looked at him. Oh my gods are the only words that come to mind. His eyes are a deep blue that make me want to look at them forever and his hair is all messy, some of it falling over his eyes. Only now do I realise how tall he is, around six feet, something like that. And his body... Damn I gotta stop staring!
"Who are you?" He asks, his voice somewhat sweet but sexy at the same time.
"Thea, who are you?"
"Matthew. What you doin here?"
"I could ask you the same thing," He gives a warm smile that makes my heart melt.
"Answer the question."
"I hang out here, that's all. What 'bout you?"
"I was just walking and I came across this."
"Oh, cool. So, do you um, live round here?"
"Yeh, well, kinda. Down there somewhere." I say pointing at the way I just come. "Do you? Only, I've never seen you round here before."
"I just moved her last week and, let's just say it's nice to get away from all the noise"
After saying that he sits back down like he was before.
"Well aren't you gonna sit down?" I laugh and take a seat next to him.
"Your names Thea? It's a pretty name"
"Thanks." We sit there for a while in silence. I swing my legs back and forth, not quite sure what to do.
"What did you mean about getting away from all the noise?"
"I have three brothers and a little sister and I'm the oldest so I like getting away from it all and well, just be by myself."
"Oh, what are they called, your brothers and sister?"
"Rory, Jack, Louis and Emeli. You got any?"
"Yeah, a little sister. Her names Ella, she's 12."
"Why do hang around this place?"
"My mum hates me and I have no idea why and I like this place better than my house, it makes me feel calm and... sorry, I'm rambling. I do that a lot. See now I'm doing it again" We both laugh.
This goes on for a while, both of us telling the other about ourselves. I find out his Father died when he was 14, he's 18 now. He lives in a house pretty much like my own. And he told me lots of other things as well. We don't really stop laughing the whole time; it feels good to have someone to talk to. After all it's not as if I'm the most popular person in the world.
When we do finally stop laughing, I take the opportunity to look at him. Well it's not like I could keep my eyes of him is it? He notices me staring and he meets my gaze, both of us not wanting to look away. He stares in a way that makes me blush and I turn away, embarrassed.
"It's getting cold," He says, zipping up his hoodie.
"Shit! I need to get home; I've been gone for like three hours. Damn! My mum is gonna kill me!"
"Come on, I'll walk back with you."
"No, you don't have to"
"I want to, now come on" He grabs my hand and drags me off down the track. He doesn't know it but his touch sends shivers up my arm.
"Besides who's going to protect you if someone jumps out and tries to kill you?"
"Sure, that's really going to happen! And anyway, like you're gonna be much help!"
"Hey!" He stops walking and turns serious "I wouldn't let anything happen to you, Thea" And I believe him.
He reaches up, his fingers grazing over my cheek then brushing a strand of my hair behind my ear. Then he leans in and whispers in my ear.
"You're too special for me to let anything happen to you." He lets his lips linger by my ear then just keeps walking.
When we get to the wooden gate, I turn to Matt and say "Are we gonna meet up again?"
"Yeah. I'll see you soon." He gives me a hug and I am more than happy to hug him back. But sometime we had to let go. I say goodbye and climb back over the gate and run off towards the house. Half way I turn back and wave. I run the rest of the way, climb easily up the rope and when I look back again he's gone.
Once inside, I tip toe on to the landing. No sign of my mum. So I go down the stairs and see her asleep on the sofa with Ella curled up next to her. I go back up stairs and flop on to my bed. Mission compleat!
Review please guys! :D
