Chapter 3

You've Got To Do With What You Got-Yeah, Right!

Joel

You know, even though I'm the farthest thing you can get from a genius, it doesn't take an Einstein to understand the fact that the chances of me in a limo with four other kids are, well, very small. If you have a problem remembering my name, just remember this rhyme. Joel is not well. Stupid, I know right? Ah, you know what? Forget that tune or whatever you want to call it. Just remember four letters. J, O, E, L! Seriously, it's much simpler than something like Jonathon or Will. Wait, Will has the same amount as letters as me. Argh! Forget everything I said! Hi, I'm Joel and I'm a professional boxer. Ok, maybe not professional but I'm aiming to be one. Um, perhaps, more like dreaming to be one.

I got all the muscle I need because I've worked out for more than half of my life to keep in shape. I've kept an unbroken record of beating every single opponent in the school wrestling team and, not to mention, I have the stamina of someone twice my size. In school work, however, you might call me a person with a brain the size of walnut. So yeah, I got muscles, but no knowledge. Now, about how I got into this game situation…. All right, the first thing you got to know about me is that I really have no experience in gaming.

Uh, except for the wack-a-mole thingamabobs. Man, I hate those moles. Even though I hit them a dozen times and even though I pretty much trashed the machine from hitting it so hard, they wouldn't stop staring at me with those creepy smiles. Well, whatever. If I had to choose something to do for the rest of my life, it would have been definitely anything but videogames. Whoops, back to the main subject. One of the reasons I really found me getting chosen very strange was because I didn't send a letter in the first place. I just got this call that someone would pick me up in a limo and that I had won a position as one of the first gamers of Terestira. Why I went? Easy, I don't have anything else to do and I'm trying to distract myself from the big possibility that my future looks relatively bad.

If you want to know about my family, well, here it is. I live with my dad because my mom left him saying he was nothing but a drunk lunatic. She left us when I was in preschool so I don't remember too much about her. When the day came for me to get into the limo, I had a chat with my dad. My dad is not exactly what you call "THE BEST DAD IN THE WORLD." He drinks, smokes, and works at a gas station. But he keeps telling me that if I work hard enough, I can do pretty much anything. He told me before I left for the seventeenth time, "Joel Saw, I'll tell you once and I'll tell you again. If you want to pull yourself out of a hole, you got to work hard to climb to the top."

For some reason, this kept on ringing into my mind as I entered the limo. I didn't take anything except the clothes on my body because I couldn't think up anything we needed and even though I don't know much about this game company, I do know that they're pretty rich and they should be able to provide anything I needed. This was the first time I had been in a limo and I just have to say that it was awesome. The seats were all cushioned and a table was in the middle of the car. There were also small TVs stuck onto the roof. It wasn't until a few minutes later did I realize that there was another kid at the other end of the limo.

When I took a closer look at him, I just had to gawk. If I was a muscle-dude, then this guy was a-. Um, a looker-dude. In other words, he should be a model on some kind of teen magazine. Not that I read it, I just look at the pictures of those dudes with huge abs. What? I need to know what I should look like later if I'm going to be a professional boxer. Anyway, although he was what many girls would call 'gorgeous,' he wore plain clothes which gave him a mystery aura. He turned toward me with a frown. The first thoughts that came to my mind was, "Oh great, he's gonna go on about how I'm trash." Much to my huge surprise, his frown turned into a grin.

"Hey, I'm Reece. You?" Coolness and calmness seemed to ooze right out of him. "Uh, I'm Joel." He smiled even wider and asked, "You look like a real macho man. You work out?" I didn't know why but I considered him a friend right then? Why? I'm not so sure myself but because of my muscles, people tend to avoid me. I never really had a friend or at least, a good friend. But when I saw him, I knew he was ten times better than some of the kids back at my school. "Hahaha, yeah," I replied kind of awkwardly. We would have chatted more if the limo hadn't stopped and picked up another passenger. It was a girl.

Hahaha! Cliffhanger! What did you think? I'll try to update more! Suggestions, thoughts, please review!
