The old couple soon left for home, leaving me sitting on the bench alone. I looked up at the cloudy sky. They have been in love since their teenage years but couldn't be together until they were in their 70's. Back then, they missed each other...just like how I missed Baine...twice. What if he disappears from my life just like how the old lady disappeared from the old man's life back then? When will be the next time I see him? Will I ever see him again?

In the old couple's case, they eventually found each other again. But I might not be so lucky. I might never be able to tell Baine how I feel. No...I don't want that. But what can I do...?

Just as I was thinking that, another bus arrived. I suddenly remembered what I told Karin before. How can I give up now? Baine didn't give up 5 years ago. And fate brought him back to me 5 years later. This is my second chance. I can't let him slip away again. Fate already did its part. Now it's my turn!

I ran on the bus even though I don't know where I am going. Baine said that he can never hide from me, and I believe that since we are tied by fate, it will bring me to him eventually.

I called Baine's mom. She had given me her number in case I needed a mother figure to talk to. "Hello, Mrs. Adonis? Yes, this is Baylee. Is Baine home? ...No? Oh..." I said, disappointed. Well, at least now I know he isn't home...

"Baylee, is something going on? Isn't Baine with you? I thought he had a surprise for you," Mrs. Adonis said. "A surprise?" I asked. "Oh, oops. Did I just ruin the surprise? Maybe he chickened out or something again, but he's been making such a ruckus at home, playing his stupid guitar and singing that song over and over again. It has to be for you. He never behaves this way for anyone else," Mrs. Adonis explained.

"No...he didn't say anything...what song is it...?" I asked. "Oh, I don't know, but I think he recorded it. Let me go find that CD. I was so sure he would at least have the guts to give you that disc. Oh here it is," Mrs. Adonis said as I heard music start playing in the background. Suddenly, I heard Baine's voice. My eyes widened as my heart skipped a beat. Wait...it must be from the CD...he's singing...'Make You Feel My Love'...

As I listened to the song, I had flashbacks of all our memories together, all that he's done for me. It was the perfect song, except for one thing. 'I know you haven't made your mind up yet..." he sang. No...I have already made up my mind. I just realized too late.

I couldn't stop the tears from forming in my eyes. I miss his voice...I miss him. It took all of my effort to prevent my tears from falling. "Mrs. Adonis..." I started with a shaky voice. I stopped and took a deep breath. "Baylee, are you okay? Do you want me to help you find him?" she asked gently. "No...It's okay, I'll find him myself, don't worry. I'll talk to you later," I reassured her with a small laugh.

I tried to think of anywhere else that Baine might go. He went to the courtyard...then the roof...those were all places that are meaningful to us. Could he be retracing our memories through these relevant places? Was there another important place...?

My eyes widened as the bus slowed at the stop where Baine ran off the bus after our eyes met for the first time. That was also the first time we went home together.

I think I know where he is. I keep passing this important stop, just like how I keep passing Baine. Not this time.

I ran off the bus and ran into the woods, trying to retrace the steps from the time he brought me to that mystical lake. That's where he confessed...and that's also where we had our first kiss. Why didn't I think of this?!

After going through the small mysterious hidden path, I finally found my way to the lake. There was a lonely figure sitting on a giant boulder in front of the lake, with his knees drawn up to his chest and his head against his knees. I climbed up even though it was hard and I barely had any strength left. The only thing keeping me going was the thought that I have to get to him.

When I finally made it, I couldn't believe my eyes. It's Baine...it's really him. He's right before my eyes. I felt overwhelmed by a compulsion to take him into my arms.

Next thing I know, I had already run over to him and wrapped my arms around him. He jumped and looked up in surprise. Seeing his face made my heart ache again. There were hints of tears that he's been holding back in his eyes, and he looked like he had been depressed for the past 10 years.

"You liar!" I shouted as tears spilled from my eyes. "B-Baylee…? What are you doing here? Did you get my text?" Baine asked in shock. "I did, but I don't care! What kind of knight are you? You didn't guard me, you abandoned your duty without my permission! You broke your promise!" I cried. "My promise? When did I break it? I told you I will always be there when you need me…but my part is done…you have Aceton now…he's the one you really need…your fated one…" Baine whispered quietly as he looked away.

"Who gave you the right to decide who my fated one is?! It's my fated one, so I decide! And I needed you! Always did, and always will! After you left, all I could think about were memories of you…even when Ace was right next to me. You have no idea how much I wished that it was you who was next to me. You're not allowed to leave me ever again! Or I WILL hold you accountable for breaking your promise!" I said stubbornly.

Baine stared at me in shock and opened his mouth, but closed it again and blinked. He opened his mouth again. "R-really? But I thought Aceton was the one you love...if it's about promises, I told you it's okay to break your promise if you're going after the one you truly love..." Baine said.

"Turns out I didn't have to break my promise to do that. I listened to you, I went after the one I truly love, and I ended up here," I said.

"…Are you sure you're not just confused from the shock? I'm Baine, remember? I'm the bane of your life…while Aceton is the prince that you've been waiting for…" Baine mumbled, still in disbelief.

"I think you're the one who's confused! You're not the bane of my life. You're the Baine-with-an-I of my life! You're my 'long-awaited' one!" I said, referring to the Hawaiian meaning of his name.

"Oh I know…this must be a dream…" Baine said slowly. He suddenly slapped himself, then blinked. "I'm not dreaming…!" he said in wonder. "I'm sorry it took me so long to realize it…I already missed you the first time five years ago, and I almost missed you again this time. I am not letting you slip away ever again…" I sobbed as I gently touched the side of his face that he has just slapped. This idiot…my adorable idiot…

Baine held my shoulders and stared intensely at me, as if verifying my authenticity. Then the brightest smile I've ever seen spread across his face as he took me into his arms in a hug so tight that my body hurt a little. However, this was nothing compared to how much my heart ached when he left my side. I wrapped my arms around him and held him closer to me.

I don't know how long we stayed like that, but Baine suddenly cleared his throat

"You know I think you're perfect…but there is just one thing I would like to change about you…if you permit…" Baine said slowly, as if afraid to continue. This sounds familiar, I think I've heard it or seen it somewhere before. Oh! I've seen it on a site about romantic proposals that one of the girls showed me. One guy on the site had said the only thing he wanted to change about his girlfriend was her last name.

"What is it? My last name?" I joked. "Wow, that's a little fast! I don't mind if that's what you want, but I never knew you were so eager to rush into marriage..." Baine teased with a chuckle. I blushed and snuggled my face deeper into his chest in embarrassment. I just blurted it out without thinking. "Besides, you don't have to change your last name for me if you don't want to. I like it just the way it is," Baine said softly. I smiled. "So what is it that you wanted to change...?" I asked curiously.

"Your relationship status…" he continued. I blinked. My current relationship status is…single…so if he wants to change it, then it would become…plural?! As in, a pair?!

"Will you be my girlfriend?" Baine whispered in my ear. A shiver went down my spine, but it wasn't because I was cold or scared. I was…excited. I might've actually been waiting for this moment myself. I nodded with a smile. Baine jumped up and pulled me up excitedly. Next thing I know, he was already happily spinning me around in his arms.

"Baylee is finally my girlfriend! Woohooo!" he shouted as I laughed. He gently put me down and leaned in towards my lips. I quickly covered my mouth. "I'm still sick!" I said. "So am I..." Baine whispered with a smile as he pulled my hand away and kissed me. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him closer, letting all my long-suppressed feelings pour out into the kiss. Baine pulled away breathlessly and stared at me in wonder. "...Whoa. Where did you learn to kiss like that?" he whispered in awe. I blushed as he pulled me into another tight hug.

"By the way...how did you get my scarf?" he asked. "I met the same old lady you did," I said. "If this isn't fate, then I don't know what is. We're definitely meant to be together," he said with a laugh.

"And how did you manage to find me anyway?" Baine asked curiously. "I called your mom," I said half-jokingly. "You called my mother? Oh, no. She's definitely going to give me a whacking..." Baine groaned. I laughed. "Wait, my mom doesn't know about this place though. How did you really find me?" he asked. "I tried looking everywhere that were special to us, but I couldn't find you, so as a last resort, I called her to see if you were home. But you weren't...honestly, I might have given up, but then I suddenly remembered this place," I explained. "I'm sorry..." Baine whispered. "Don't be...because of this experience, I finally know how you felt...and how I feel. It brought us closer together. And your mom also let me listen to the song you've been working on, so that was a bonus," I said with a laugh. Baine pulled away and stared at me in surprise.

"She did what?! That was supposed to be a surprise!" Baine complained. "I don't need to listen to the song to know your feelings...I already feel them here..." I said as I pointed to my heart. "And...the song is outdated now that I've already made up my mind," I said with a smile. Baine stared into my eyes. "That song will never be outdated for me. Even if you already made up your mind, and even if your choice wasn't me, there's still nothing I wouldn't do for you..." he said genuinely. I wrapped my arms around him again and rested my face against his warm chest. "I know..." I whispered with a smile.

"Since my lovely mother ruined that surprise, I would just have to go ad lib. There's no fancy instruments or anything...all I have...are my voice and my sincerity. Will you accept it?" he asked. I nodded and he started singing as we swayed to his music. The song is 'A Thousand Years'. This song was indeed quite fitting for our relationship. Listening to Baine's voice vibrating through his broad chest made me feel a sense of security. I snuggled closer to him as he finished.

"I wish I found you sooner..." I lamented, thinking about all the precious years we have wasted. "Maybe it wasn't the right time...even if we got together 5 years ago, we might not have been able to stay together. Missing each other once makes us cherish each other even more now. We can't erase the past, but we can draw the future together. What's important is that we're together now. And we're going to be together from now on...always," Baine whispered back.

It's hard to believe that the one for me had already appeared 5 years ago, but I never noticed and ended up missing him...still, I shouldn't be complaining. I thought about the old couple. I only lost 5 years. They lost more than 40.

People say that if someone is your fated one, he/she will always come back to you no matter how many times you missed each other, but in reality, that is not always the case. Sometimes, when you miss your chance, it will be gone forever... I guess the old couple and I were just few of the lucky ones to be able to meet our fated one twice in our life. But we shouldn't take our chances for granted.

In order to successfully go on a date with fate, the right person is not the only key necessity. Timing is also very important...because even if you met your fated one, you might not be together if the timing is wrong. After all, you must attend your date at the right time.

This time, Baine was finally able to find the right timing and I was able to find the right person. Through it all, I also realized one important lesson:

You can't just wait for fate and expect it to do everything for you. Fate can bring your fated one to you and even set the perfect chance for you, but it's up to you to accept your invitation and go after your own date with fate.

END

A/N: Yes, I'm not tricking you. This really is the end! I didn't mean for the lesson part to force you to confess to your secret crush or anything. It's just my personal thought from a past mistake. Thanks for sticking with this story till the end! I know this story is a lot shorter than my first story, but it was originally meant as a spin-off of that story anyway haha. If you still have any lingering questions about any of the characters or events, feel free to leave a comment, and I might create a special chapter to fill in any blanks =] Now since this story is done, I'm gonna focus all my attention on my newest story, "My Gay Fiance!".
