"Look at you, you're horrifyingly hurt!" He was scolding her about what she just did and she didn't want to hear it.
"Stop it." She said, forcefully, her voice as cold as ice, and as heavy as a block. "I had to do that mission and look, I'm fine."
He gave her a serious look. "Ashley, you're hurt, you're not fine. I don't think you can handle it." She was all battered up, from the mission she did just minutes before she encountered him.
Her eyes blurred, hot tears warming up her icy cheeks. "I-I can handle it!" She slugged him, hard. He looked at her in surprise, for he thought that she wouldn't hurt him. She never did before. They're best friends. He smiled and caressed her cheek. She tried to pull away, but he moved and put an arm around her waist, entrapping her. She frowned and realized that he was just toying with her.
"Adam, let go. Leave me alone."
He smirked and held her tighter. "No, Ashley. I'll keep you close to me. Forever."
Ashley flinched; he was hugging her too tightly against the wounds. "Please. Stop it, Adam. Stop hurting me." Her voice cracked.
"That's only because you…"
"What? Because I what?" She answered fiercely, forcing the answer out of him.
He looked down and his voice was lower than a whisper. "You didn't have to take that mission. I'm sorry I scolded you."
She elbowed his stomach and moved out of the way. "That's what you get. Why do you always hurt me so much?"
He keeled over, tears forming in the corners of his eyes. "Okay, I deserved that. I don't mean to, I just care about you."
"I care about you too, Adam…" She started, his hopes rising, his heart beating faster as he anticipated her answer. "And that's because we've been friends since what, forever?"
His hope diminished, and he couldn't take anymore. "Ashley, I…I-" He was interrupted by the beeping noises of their gadgets.
"Ah, sorry Adam, we have a new mission." Ashley pulled out her provided newest iPhone. Ashley quickly read the news on the phone and smiled. "Looks like we have this mission together, Adam!"
"And…We have to be undercover again."
"Let's go see what we have to be this time! Going undercover is so fun," Ashley gushed and then hopped onto her motorcycle. She rode with a helmet and Adam shook his head, hopping onto his motorcycle as well, and he too wore his helmet.
He caught up with Ashley at the HQ. She took off her helmet and shook out her long dark brown hair, with naturally highlighted light brown hair. It flowed smoothly, and when the sun hit it, that made it a light shade of red. She was petite, shorter than Adam by a bit, and she was slender. Her eyes were like chocolate drops, and they were usually laughing eyes, excluding the times she's angry, crying, or being undercover.
She smiled at Adam, whose eyes have been tracing her figure, memorizing her every move. What was Ashley doing, might you ask? Being completely clueless about Adam's secret childhood crush is what. She looked directly into his eyes because he hadn't been responding for the past few minutes. His eyes were laughing eyes, the metallic gray orbs, beautiful, and rare. Just like him. He was an outgoing fellow, and always joked around. But when it came to Ashley's safety, he became serious. What do you expect of a love-struck boy? He had a built body, and he was tall. He had brown hair too, but his was a lighter shade than Ashley's and obviously it was shorter.
He hugged her. "You're alive."
She giggled. "When am I not?"
He gave her a serious look then. "You know you're a reckless, good-for-nothing little girl."
"Yeah, I know that. Tell me something I don't know." She walked into the HQ building and made a bee-line for the elevator. "C'mon, Adam, hurry!" Ashley waved Adam over, making quick motions, excitedly. He got into the elevator and they waited for the elevator to go underground.
"Something you don't know, huh?" Adam answered from earlier.
"What?" Ashley answered back, obviously confused.
"You said to tell you something you don't know."
She scoffed. "What don't I know? I've been trained in everything. You know, because we'd need it being undercover."
"Not this…" Adam said nervously.
"What then? Tell me already!" Ashley was getting mildly impatient.
"I…I like you."
"Pfft, you're such a liar. I know that. I like you too." Ashley scoffed, tossing her hair over her shoulder.
"Y-you d-do?" Adam stuttered in happiness.
"Yeah, don't you have to like each other to be best friends?"
Adam shook his head. "Never mind. It's…it's nothing."
Ashley shrugged. "If you say so…" The elevator beeped and they entered Ms. Bosu's office.
