Prologue
As darkness transcended upon the town, a strange, mysterious air began to take form within the metropolis as if a forewarning of upcoming events. The moon towered glumly over the nighttime sky, lazily thrusting down its pale rays of light throughout the city as if it was blatantly oblivious to the town's eerie calmness. A night like this was bound to behold catastrophe. Especially when the most gruesome of all creatures had chosen this night to arise.
Coiled beneath a small Pine Tree was a monster. One of inexplicable powers, capable of the most heinous deeds one could ever dream of. This beast was unlike anything out of the humans' imagination or anything else ever invented. This beast is what defined fear.
It began to tremble uncontrollably as if struggling against some internal force. Heavy breathing accompanied this struggle along with a cry of pain. This battle between the two sides of the beast continued forth for several minutes until, suddenly, the being went limp. For one complete instant all was still. Then with a short jerk, it went rigid in success. Smirking maliciously with a heart dark with desire, it preceded in collecting itself up and traveling swiftly through the night.
Weaving in and out of obstacles at a tremendous speed, it reveled in its freedom in the night: Jumping over houses like they were nothing but pebbles on the ground, and howling a deep, guttural sound that echoed through the city.
As it began to calm down, it slowed its pace scoping out possible candidates for the victim of the night. It's head swiveled swiftly from side to side and it's tongue protruded slightly in anticipation. It knew exactly what it wanted tonight, and when it wanted something, it got it. No exceptions.
In one quick moment, it had caught a whiff of something…. something it craved. It's new victim.
She was very gorgeous, the prey. With long black hair down to her shoulder blades and a haughty grin glued to her face as she tucked a cell phone into a small, leather purse. The beast looked at her and smiled wickedly.
It crept towards her with immense caution as the woman stood unaware of the upcoming doom. The beast's lips turned up a little higher in excitement. Three steps…two steps…one step away.
Pouncing like a cheetah in the wild, the beast tackled her to the ground before the woman even had time to yell out in her defense. The beast, moving at what could have been the speed of light, drug the unconscious figure into the darkness of the night acrimoniously laughing at the woman's frailty. The sound slowly dissolved away, replaced with the chilling silence of the night.
Flashing white lights illuminated the old house as the investigators filed in to get a glimpse of the corpse - or what was left of it.
All were taken aback by the image before them and they all had to swallow back the phlegm that threatened to expel from the investigators' bodies. In all of their years of work, they had never seen anything quite as horrific as what lay before them. Chicago was known to have multiple homicides but they had never seen one as merciless as this.
"Good God," one reporter choked as he entered the room. He clasped his hands over his mouth to avoid an extremely girlie yelp of surprise.
The mess that lay before them could hardly even be identified as a body. Skin showered the length of the floor in minuscule shred like pieces. The killer had graded and peeled the skin off the victim like one would to a block of cheese. Veins were hung from the fan above slowly dripping crimson blood onto the shreds of skin below. Some were even spread among the furniture of the room decorating the furniture like Christmas lights. Even more sickening, was the cauldron-like pot to the side of the room boiling from the untamed fire beneath. Limbs of the poor soul hung over it as if cooking for a roast, and the malodorous stench satiated the whole house.
Investigators stared in horror at the scene before them. Their brains seemed to process it all gradually, only somewhat taking in the brutality of the crime.
An ear-splitting zoom reverberated throughout the street beside the house interrupting the investigators' musings. A green Toyota truck sped out of the monstrous city with belongings carelessly thrown into the trunk. In the driver's seat a mother raced off in distress as a teenage boy sat sobbing in the passenger seat with scarlet blood stained to his hands.
