The Stupid Bet and the Daring Girl

My chest was heaving heavily as I ran down the hallway to class. I popped in through the door just as the bell rang.

"Gabi you're late," my teacher called.

"No the bell rang right as I walked in!" I said out of breath.

He shrugged like it didn't matter and told me to sit down. I did. I moved my seat as far back as I possibly could and plugged my laptop in. He gave me a look and I groaned as I moved my desk back up in defeat. Mr. Stevens went on to explain how to conjugate irregular verbs once again. I sat there feigning interest as I subtly opened my laptop up and started browsing the web.

"Gabi, top down," Mr. Stevens chided. I sighed and shut my laptop. I started playing with my limp brown hair resigned just to sit and stare. I turned around to check the time, seriously who put a clock in the back of the room? I still had half an hour of class left 'til lunch. I groaned and turned around and tried to pay attention as my stomach growled. Loudly I might add.

"Okay class," Mr. Stevens clapped his hands together, "Pick a partner and do exercises 1 through 4. It's due by the end of class." My eyes immediately went to my best friend Michelle. She turned around and looked at me too. We got together and I started babbling. I started talking about a party that was happening this weekend. She then informed me that the foreign exchange student might be there.

"Really? Have you heard his accent? Is it cute? Is he cute?" I whispered back enthusiastically.

"Gabi," Mr. Stevens chided as he put his hand on my desk, "I don't hear any German."

"Es tut mir leid. Ich habe eine fete in meine hose," I said as I smiled smugly. I told him that I was sorry and had a party in my pants. He looked suprised. He opened his mouth then closed it. He finally decided it was funny and laughed. He told me to stay on topic before he walked away to go answer someone's question. I continued to talk to Michelle as we started on our work.

The bell rang and as the class was packing up our things to go to lunch Mr. Stevens called out, "There is a test Friday! If you need help you can stay after school today or tomorrow." It looked like I was staying after. I walked off to lunch with a bitter feeling in my stomach. I did NOT want to fail this test. As Michelle left to go to her Statistics class she punched me in the arm. I waved bye as I walked to the lunch line.

As I was going through the line I kept thinking about Mr. Stevens dreamy blue eyes and his cute little dimple and the way he chided mein class. Did I mention that I had a little crush on him? Anyways, after I bought my food, a spicy chicken sandwhich, I walked back to my lunch table, grabbed a chair and sat down. I listened as my friends talked about some test that was apparently really hard.

After school I had swim practice. I got out early though because this girl named Stacy fainted in the pool. I called Michelle to pick me up because my mom wouldn't let me drive during the winter. It's not like I had my own caranyways. When her blue minivan pulled up I hopped in and we drove to my house. When we got there we started watching our favorite TV show, Once Upon A Time. My stomach grumbled. I got up to make popcorn. I didn't pay attention to the time and ended up buring the bag. "Aww crap! I burned it!" I quickly put another bag in.

"I dare you to eat it!" Michelle called from the other room.

"Fine," I said as I paid attention to the other popcorn bag. Afterall, who was I to back down from a dare? When the bag was done I brought both bags into the living room with me. I opened the burnt bag and stuck a big handful in my mouth and chewed. I regretted it. It tasted like shit. After I swallowed the mouthful and went and gulped down water. I got out a bag of jellybeans and shoved a whole wad into my mouth. I should've checked the label because they were Burt's Bots jellybeans, the kind from Harry Potter. I almost threw up. I grabbed a can of pringles and started eating those. "I regret nothing," I said as I sat back down on the couch.

"Uhuh sure," Michelle said.

"Shut up," we continued watching our show. After a while I couldn't hold it in any longer. I had to talk about him. "So what about that test Friday?" I asked.

"Eh I can bullshit my way through it," Michelle shrugged.

"Well I'm gunna stay after school tomorrow with Mr. Stevens to get extra help," I tried to say nonchalantly.

"Oh my God, do you still have a crush on him?" Michelle said.

"BLASPHEMY!" I shouted. I rolled over and buried my face in the pillow. My face was beat red.

"Oh shut up and answer my question," she punched my shoulder. I mumbled my reply. "What was that?" Mumble mumble. She punched me.

"Ok fine. Jerk," I gave in, "just a little bit," I offered.

"Wow Gabi," Michelle said. She sat in thought for a while. "Ok I dare you to try to seduce him," she finally said.

"What?" I stuttered.

"You heard me," she smirked. "I said seduce Mr. Sevens."

"Fine, I'll do it," I gave in.

"$150 says you can't do it by the end of the semester,"

"$300 says I can do it by the end of the year,"

"Deal," we shook hands on it. After all, I couldn't back down from a dare.
