Chapter Two
Nathaniel Blake
"Jessica, please refrain yourself from kissing in my class." my English teacher, , commanded.
She gives a cute pout, but does what he says anyways.
"Okay, who would like to hand out papers for me?"
A hand immediately shot up. I rolled my eyes. James Patrick, the school's suck-up. "Dear Jamie boy, it's only the first day of school. First period too, scared your teachers aren't going to like you this year?" I whispered. Jessica giggled besides me. He just handed us our papers quickly and walked to the next table. I looked at the paper.

What are we? Five? Who does this anymore?
"We still have to fill out these papers? Aren't we seniors? Not little five year old brats?" a voice behind me asked.
I laugh and turn around. A girl, that looked really familiar, stares back at me. You could tell she was short, even if she was sitting down, maybe a little under five feet. The girl had a thin waist with long blonde hair flowing down it. I study her face, she didn't wear any make-up at all, either that or she did a good job at hiding it (why do girls make it look like they're not wearing any make-up? Why can't they just not wear any at all? Problem solved.) Her eyes were a deep sea green color and wait, I've seen her eyes somewhere..it couldn't be.
" , if you want to say something, raise your hand."
Anthony. Alexis Anthony, she was back.
Alexis Anthony
I'd like to think I was a good person. You know, the type to help old people cross the street, or the type to stay with a kid when they're lost (even if I hate children) so when asked me to raise my hand and get permission to talk, I did.
"Yes ?"
"Why do we have to do this?" I ask bluntly.
" I do not..."
"Sorry sir for not raising my hand but I think you have the wrong idea. I'm not questioning your teaching abilities or anything, I'm just curious. Why do we have to fill out this paper? For you to get to know us better? Mr.T, you're probably going to be reading hundreds of these papers, by the time you're finished, all the answers would blend in together. Besides, it's not even like students are putting the truth on the paper anyways." I looked down at my own paper

"so I came to the conclusion that to save your time and your student's efforts, just crumple up our paper and play basketball with the recycling bin or something." I crumpled up my own paper and shot at the recycling bin. By some stroke of luck, I made it (it would've totally ruined the moment if I missed)
People actually stood up and clapped. I curtsied (it felt like the right thing to do) and sat back down. Other students followed my example. Getting high school seniors to recycle and have fun while doing it? Yeah, I could be considered a miracle worker.
By the time the bell rang, people were actually willingly talking to me (and laughing!) sure I had friends at my old school (and I was somewhat popular too) but not like this. People actually listened to me, some even glanced at my direction waiting for my opinion. It was weird, but a good weird. On my way out the door, Mr.T smiled at me, I smiled back. One class down, six more to go (and lunch too, can't forget about lunch) darn it, now I'm hungry. Thank goodness I remembered to put a bag of gummy bears in my backpack. Right as I was about to open my backpack and get some food, I felt a hand grabbed me by my arm. "Alexis?"
My eyebrows scrunched up out of habit. Spiky blonde hair, green eyes, why does that look so familiar? Then it hit me. "Andrew Cox?"
He grinned, pleased that I remembered him (he was supposedly the "love of my life" in middle school, how could I forget?) "most people just call me Andy now."
I winked at him "maybe I'm not most people?"
He laughed. "It's good to see you again. You just disappeared all of a sudden, everyone thought you were murdered and your body was thrown in the lake."
"Well that's a pleasing thought."
"Does anyone know you're back?"
"Not really. I mean, if you don't include my family."
"Does Nathan know?"
"Well we haven't exactly been pen pals after I left. Why?"
"Why what?"
"Out of the hundreds of students, why Nathan?"
"Nathan he was well, he was pretty torn up when you left."
Torn up? I doubt it. Sure, I could imagine life being pretty dull without me, but torn up. Nope. "You're exaggerating." I punch him lightly.
He raised both his hands up "It's true, I'm not exaggerating!"
I rolled my eyes "So what? I left, Nathan's "torn up" and somehow Jessica ends up being his...you know."
"Girlfriend? Trust me, they're not dating."
"No no, not girlfriend. Uh, friends with benefits, minus the "friends" part. So uh, acquaintances with benefits."
"How'd you know about Jessica's and Nathan's um, relationship?"
"They were all over each other during first period."
"Jealous?"
"More like disgusted. Jessica? Of all people? I thought he had some standards."
Andrew just smiles. "I hate to cut off our conversation but if we talk any longer we'll be late for class. It's good seeing you Alexis" he bent down to kiss my cheek (he was several inches taller than me, darn my shortness!) "sit next to me at lunch?"
"It's only first period-almost second-who knows? I might meet more interesting people than you, I won't make any promises." I teased.
Nathaniel Blake
How disgusting. Alexis and Andy shamelessly flirting with each other right in the middle of the hall. And to think I was going to offer her a tour around the school (she was new after all) forget her, like I care. Well, the reasonable side of me argued maybe she didn't know I was in her first period. No no, who couldn't notice me? She had to know I was there. I was looking right at her! People's looks can change in four years. Sure, I had more muscle, my brown hair was longer and I grew taller but that's it. Besides I'm unforgettable. Maybe she didn't expect me to come and talk to her. Well, if I were in her position, I wouldn't expect it. Whatever, it doesn't matter anymore. Why am I even arguing with myself in the first place? Darn you Alexis, I swear you bring out the weirdest sides of me.
Alexis Anthony
I swear the universe either hates me, enjoys torturing me or a mixture of both. Nathaniel was in my second period. And my third. And my fourth. Seeing his face every morning? Not a good way to start off your day. Okay, I lied. He's not exactly ugly, and some girls may describe him as "hot" actually, I've seen A LOT of girls throwing themselves at him today (they're a disgrace to the female population) but basically, I've been avoiding Nathan all morning. To be honest? I don't know how to treat him, should I be nice to him? Or insult him? Are we friends? I hate not knowing. Sure we hated each other for years, but that was when we were children. Maybe we're all "grown up" now. I really need to talk to that fool.
The bell ending fourth period rang through the classrooms. Finally. Lunch time. Sadly I finished my bag of gummy bears in second period, gosh was I hungry. Note to self: Eat breakfast or bring more snacks to school. I would've sprinted to lunch, except for every other student was also racing to go to lunch and successfully blocking up the hallway. I swear, that girl in front of me, I was so close to kicking her.
"Lex!" Andrew called "so did you find anyone better to eat lunch with?"
Sadly, I haven't been talking to anyone since first period, everyone already had their own little groups I knew they wouldn't let a stranger in so easily. "Eh, I guess I'll give you the pleasure of sitting with me today."
He placed one hand over his heart while the other pretended to wipe a tear from his eye "Why I feel honored."
When we walked into the cafeteria, a million pairs of eyes were on us. (okay, I'm exaggerating, since there's only a couple of hundred students in there, but you get my point) I sat down next to Andrew at our table. I swear, the whole school gasped (another exaggeration, the whole school wasn't even there...okay, whole cafeteria) I slapped myself on the head. Andrew was always good at sports, he had some brain, and he was basically the all-round golden boy of the school. Of course he would sit at the "popular" table. During out four classes together (I pray that we won't have more together) Nathaniel proved himself to be pretty popular too when two football players almost fought about who was getting the seat next to him. So guess who just sat across from me? Yup, Nathaniel Freaking Blake.
