Wyriss gave her money to the young cashier and was given her milkshake in return. A Chocolate Strawberry Cream Milkshake with a heaping pile of whipped cream and a cherry. Pure bliss in a cup. Wyriss smiled at the woman and thanked her. She walked to the table where her best friend, Jason Cameroon, sat.
"Riss, aren't you training for a marathon? That shake's not gonna make your coach happy." he said, smirking as his chocolate-brown eyes lit up at the sight of her.
"What Coach doesn't know won't hurt him. And I ran 5 miles this morning! Not in a row, maybe, but I deserve this slice of heaven!" she hissed, popping the candied cherry into her mouth.
"You're gonna get faaaattt, Riiiisssssyyyy~!" Jason teased, taking her shake as she sat down. He licked off some of the whipped cream and Wyriss stood back up.
"I am not gonna get fat! I run every day! Now, give. It. Back." She hissed.
"You're just jealous of my amazing metabolism. I could eat seven of these things and keep my amazingly sexy body. You eat one and you have to run 5 miles to stay at the same weight." he said, continuing to eat the whipped cream.
"That's just 'cause you're a teenage boy. You all have ridiculous metabolisms." she spat, taking back her drink and shoving her straw in it. She drank it as she glared at him, causing him to burst out laughing.
"Rissy, you can't look menacing when you have whipped cream on your face. And yes, boys have awesome metabolisms. Girls can't do any of the stuff we do, whether it is eating a ton of food or simply being outgoing." he said, licking whipped cream off of his lips.
"What?! I could do anything you did just as well, if not better than you did!" she said, slamming her cup onto the table.
"Anything? Watch what you say, Rissy. Some people would take you up on that challenge. Wait, I'm one of those people." he said, sitting up and staring into her piercing azure eyes.
"Are you offering a challenge, Jason? Because I'm not one to turn one down." she whispered, her gaze boring a hole through his head.
"I bet that you can't get a girl's number. No cheating. You have to do what a guy would do and get her number." Jason said, sneering. She wouldn't be able to do that. She was against getting with someone you just met.
"Deal. Loser has to get the winner a date. A perfect date with a perfect guy."
"Or girl. Because we both know I'm gonna win." Jason said, holding his hand out. They shook hands and then she stood up.
"Be right back." she mumbled, walking past him. As she walked, she grabbed his black hoodie off of his chair and his sunglasses and backwards baseball cap off of his head. He rolled his eyes and smirked.
She stormed into the girl's restroom and walked to the mirror. She yanked the heavy, black hoodie over her head and straightened it. It was huge on her, covering up all of her female assets. It said, 'They see me rollin', they hatin'" across the front in bold, red letters. She rolled her eyes. He always pretended to be a gangster, but she had seen his SAT scores to know that he had a larger IQ than 5 so-called gangsters put together. She sighed and breathed in his scent. The hoodie was filled with the smell of firewood and pine needles, the intoxicating fragrances of Jason's shampoo and his cologne. She would never tell him, but she had a stash of the cologne he used. Not because she liked him or anything! Just because the smell was soothing. She tied her dark auburn hair into a knot on top of her head and pulled the baseball cap over it, letting a few strands stick out to fall into her pale, freckled face. The cap was blood-red, with three black lines wrapping all the way around her head. She put the simple, black sunglasses on and looked into the mirror. She was glad that she had worn her baggy, dark jeans and her blue basketball shoes, or else cross-dressing would have been a much harder feat.
"I'm gonna win this." she said, smirking. She crept out o the bathroom, making sure that no one saw her. She slowly walked over to Jason, who had taken her milkshake again and was halfway done with it. "Sup, bro?" she said, lowering her voice.
"Those words should never ever come out of your mouth, Rissy." Jason said as she plopped down into her chair.
"Don't call me Rissy! We're in the middle of a bet, stupid!" she hissed, glaring at him from behind his sunglasses.
"Fine. Which chick are you hitting on?" he said, finishing her shake.
"I'm thinking about that blond over there. The one who is facing away from us. I passed her when I got my milkshake. She's alone and looks pouty. And you owe me a shake, Mr. Metabolism." Wyriss said, standing and then quickly slouching.
"Go get her, tiger." Jason said, smacking her butt.
"Jason! You can't-" she started, spinning towards him and glaring.
"Hey, bro. Stay in character. Unless you plan on losing this bet. Guys always smack each other's asses. It's a motivational thing, I guess." Jason said, smirking.
She growled at him before stalking off towards the unsuspecting girl. On her way over, she mumbled under her breath, "He only wanted an excuse to touch a girl's ass."
When Wyriss got to the girl, she plopped into the seat across from her and said, "Damn, girl, you're fine. Do you like Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup? 'Cause you're Mm Mm Good!"
The girl blushed and brushed some of her bleach blond hair behind her ear. "Wh-What?" she stuttered, biting her lower lip.
'God, this girl is stupid.'
"I said you were fine, girl. You probably couldn't hear me, 'cause my heart is pounding so loudly after I saw your beautiful face." Wyriss said, smirking, "My name's Wyyyyattt. And you are?"
'Almost lost it there. Please don't let her name be stupid. That'll make this harder.'
"My name is Candy." she said, looking at Wyriss with her dark blue eyes.
'Candy? Really, you couldn't even give me a fake name? Dear lord, my generation is stupid.'
"Your name's Candy 'cause you're sweeter than anything. Is your middle name Jewel? Just asking, because you're eyes sparkle like jewels- no, like diamonds." Wyriss said, laying it on thick. She blushed and Wyriss knew that she was winning this bet.
"No, my middle name's Marie." she said, obviously not getting the joke.
"Marie? Really? 'Cause that's the middle name of the girl I'm planning to take to dinner this weekend. Your first name is the same too! Meet me at Rico's Pizza Shop at 7 on Saturday? I think you might be the one I've been looking for." Wyriss said, lowering her glasses and winking.
"S-Sure," she said, pulling out a scrap of paper, "Here's my number." She scribbled it down and Wyriss took it.
"Thanks, gorgeous. I'll call you. Now, I gotta go. But don't worry, I'll be thinking about you allll week." Wyriss said, standing and smirking.
Wyriss sauntered back over to Jason and slapped the paper onto the table. "Beat that Jason." she said, sitting down.
"Wow, Rissy. I didn't think you had it in you. Good job. Just one teeny tiny problem." he said, sitting forward.
She raised an eyebrow and sat up, looking into his eyes. For the first time in the 12 years they had been friends, she couldn't tell what he was thinking.
"I can't get you the prefect date. And I won't try either." he said, looking at her.
She felt her eyes harden and said, "What? That was the whole point, stupid! God, you're such a- grrr!" She stood and stormed into the men's bathroom.
"I can't because the perfect date for you is me. I won't because I love you, Wyriss Anne Chase. I have for a long time. So I can't find you a date." Jason mumbled as she walked away. He felt tears prick at his eyes and he shook his head.
When she walked in, she realized where she was, but she didn't care. Wyriss walked into one of the stalls and locked it. "Stupid freaking- augggh! What does he mean, he can't? Is he really that much of a sore loser?" she hissed, yanking the glasses and hat off. Her hair fell down to frame her face, and she felt hot tears stab at her eyes.
'Why am I crying? It- It's just a stupid bet.'
Wyriss walked out of the stall and blinked back the tears. She yanked off the intoxicating-smelling sweatshirt and folded it up hastily. Thankfully, no one had come in, so she calmed down and paused for a second. "That girl is expecting someone to meet her at Rico's. Damnit." She had to go fix this.
She walked out of the bathroom, ignoring the looks she got from a few passing shoppers. She stormed past Jason, dropping his stuff onto him and approaching Candy.
She sat down in the seat across from Candy and smiled apologetically. "I'm really sorry to tell you this, but that guy who was flirting with you isn't going to call you. Ever. He does this to all of the girls he sees, and then he terrorizes them when they go to the meeting place. He did it to me, and I couldn't go to school for three days afterwards. I'm really, really sorry." she lied, hoping she would believe it.
"Oh my gosh! I knew he was too good to be true! I'm so stupid!" she sobbed, covering her face with her hands. Wyriss walked over to her and patted her back, attempting to be comforting. She jumped up and hugged the brunette, sobbing into her shoulder. Wyriss felt extremely uncomfortable, but she rubbed her back, once again trying to fix this.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I'll be fine. Don't worry. I... I don't need him." Candy said, backing up and fixing her mascara.
"Don't worry. He's a terrible guy." Wyriss said, smiling. She nodded and sighed.
"Well, it was nice talking to you. I'm gonna go now." she said, picking her purse and walking out of the food court.
"That was really nice, Rissy." Jason said, setting his hand on her shoulder.
"Don't touch me." Wyriss hissed, walking towards the exit.
He followed her, carrying his stuff in one arm and trying to grab her hand with the other. She walked out into the parking lot, walking towards her car. Her beaten up blue jeep was right in front, so she got to the car quickly. Just as she had reached the door handle, Jason grabbed her arm and spun her around.
"Wyriss Chase! I have been trying to talk to you! Now listen, because I don't want to lose you!" he said, setting his stuff down onto the hood of her car. He grabbed her upper arms with his hands and stared into her eyes. "Wyriss, I can't and won't get you a perfect date, but not because I'm a jerk. It's because I love you. I think that the perfect date for you would be me. Even if we can't date, I don't want to lose you over this little bet. You are beautiful, you are smart, and you are the sweetest girl I know. Please don't leave me. Please." he said, tears falling down his cheeks. His dark hair hung over his face, and Wyriss felt her heart stop.
'Why do I feel so happy? I feel happier then I have ever been. Am I.. yeah. I am."
Wyriss threw her arms around him and buried her face in his neck. "I wouldn't leave you, never. Jason, I would die without you. You aren't the best friend I have ever had. You are the best person. Why would I throw that away?"
He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer, as if he was trying to envelope her in his wiry frame. She looked up into he teary eyes and said, "I love you too, Jason." She pressed her lips to his, entangling her fingers in his curly hair. He set his hands on her waist and kissed her back. For the first time in his life, he couldn't hear anything but the slight sound of her heartbeat. He could only see her happy face, even though his eyes were closed. He could only feel her lips against his, her hands in his hair. He could only smell the faint scent of pine needles from his sweatshirt she had worn. He could only taste chocolate and strawberries, as the sweet taste passed back and forth between them.
She was wrong. She couldn't do everything a guy could do.
Wyriss could do much, much more.
Aww... that was so cute. My teeth are rotting from the sweetness! I wanted to write something adorable because I have been feeling so... bleh. So, to cheer up anyone who is hating love as much as I am right now, there is a little story about what happens when you don't give up on love. Thanks for reading!
