Hilary pushed aside the coffee cup, and with a sigh removed her glasses.
"Jordan, you need to know that I'm trying my hardest to keep you out of jail."
Jordan jiggled the shackles around his wrists, "I'm finding that very hard to believe."
"Yes, well, I'm working on that. Your case is complicated." She spoke trying to maintain an even tone.
"What's so complicated about; I didn't do it." Jordan hissed.
"You need to understand, you were found covered in blood standing above the body. That looks bad, at least I got you moved from the maximum security prison into the police holding cell." Hilary retorted, her voice growing a little heated.
"So because you got me moved from one jail cell to another I should be thankful, I should just forget that I'm being put on trial for murder? That me, your innocent client, could end up getting the chair because of your incompetence. I should just ignore all that and pretend that you, the lawyer I paid for –that I owe you some kind of great debt." Jordan retorted, his voice thick with emotion.
"For doing your job. That's what you were going to say next isn't it, why don't you just try being a little more creative with your insults. Especially since you aren't, paying me that is." Hilary snarled.
"Refresh my memory… It's innocent until proven guilty, or did you have me transferred to China while I was asleep?" Jordan tried to leap up, but his arms jerked him downwards when he ran out of slack in his handcuffs.
The chain jerking him downwards seemed to jostle out Jordan's rage and he slumped back down on the hard chair. Head in his hands, back hunched, he was the picture of defeat.
"I'd hate to see what happens to your guilty clients." Jordan whispered into the new silence of the interview room.
Hilary hit the buzzer on the wall to her right, breathing hard and refused to meet Jordan's eyes.
Moments later the hinges on the steel frame door began to groan and the attractive face of officer Slater peered into the room.
"All done for today Hil?" He called into the stillness.
Hilary shook her head and gave him a weak smile.
"Yeah Jonah, give your misses my best."
"You need to find the factory Hilary, that girl was a clone. The original has to be somewhere in the factory. The proof will be in the factory." Jordan called out at Hilary's receding form.
