Chapter 2: Darn - The God of Tricks

Customs: To burn a lily reed at the silver pool under the moonlight, to carry a dead bulb in your pack to make sure you always find your way.

Places of Worship: In the lost woods of Torrin (now Takor), there is a temple set for lost children to seek solace. That is where they pray to Darn.

Notable Incidents of Wrath & Mercy: Darn offers no mercy, but rather he played a hand in the creation of the Mottorri when Ilia shunned them and he pays special care to lost children or travellers. He only unleashes his wrath on his parents and their devices.

History:

The story of the true son

Ilia and Brabant were once very much in love. The only two gods in existence and before they became warped by jealousy and greed; Ilia was once with child. It was a pleasant thing, her skin perpetually glowed and for a time they were happy. Brabant did not even mind her cravings or her bouts of lust, he was so happy to be a father. When a god becomes pregnant it is said that it takes years for her to give birth and before that birth it is a happy time.

All times of joy are said to be fickle among the gods, and when the child was born he was unlike any other before or after. The spell that had been set between Brabant and Ilia by their impending child shattered, he was not beautiful. Ilia would not love a child which was not her like and Brabant cursed Ilia claiming she'd been with another. He did not believe something so hideous could be his own flesh. Their love, which had created him, also twisted him into an ugly child when they grew distant. He became unhappy and he stopped aging, perpetually the unloved child. They moved on and left him with the humans, seeking to satisfy themselves with their own desires as gods do. Seeking to be away from their failure.

Darn was a pitiful child, and when their interests turned elsewhere he became spiteful. Instead of staying with his guardians he set out to cause havoc for his parents. He was as clever a boy as he was sad, and so he became known as the god of tricks. Always seeking to undermine his parents for leaving him behind.
