Drawn to Perfection

There she was. Sitting on the bench, secluded by the trees. The setting sun cast an enchanting glow around her. Soft colours. That was what she reminded him of. Springtime, flowers and warmth. The light played with the colour of her raven hair, transforming it into a warm brown.

He stood frozen, struck by the perfection of it all. He couldn't help it, his hands automatically found his sketchbook and his favourite pencil. He started sketching – willing to capture this moment. He knew he'd never get the sight of her out of his heart or mind, but he still wanted to draw it. He had to draw it.

He wanted to reach out and run his hand through her silky long hair. He wanted those warm brown eyes of hers to look at him and he wanted to capture her pink rosy lips and never let go.

His eyes swept down to the page that lay open in his hand. Strokes of pencil adorned the page. He had always enjoyed drawing, and was actually pretty good at it. Good enough to express his feelings and intentions.

It's been almost two years since he saw her for the first time, the scene eerily familiar. Like then, she was now engrossed in her book, unaware of her surroundings. Her face displaying her feelings towards the characters and happenings in the novel. Right now, a soft smile adorned her lips.

He longed to know what she was reading, wanted to know what had made her smile like that. His hands flew over the page again and he continued drawing. The image slowly formed before his eyes and he had managed to capture the sway of her hair in the wind, the rustling trees around her and even the gentle smile that played on her lips. He was so intent on his drawing that he hadn't realized someone had approached him.

"Michael?" A soft touch to his arm and a melodic voice pulled him from his work.

"Lynne." The breath swooshed out of him as he stared into her captivating eyes. Her sweet fragrance surrounded him, blurring his senses.

She smiled as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ears. "How long have you been here?"

"Uh…," suddenly his ability to form a coherent sentence had disappeared.

She patiently waited for him to find his words.

"Not long." He finally managed to say. He felt like a stumbling fool for taking so long to answer her, but Lynne just smiled and nodded.

"What's that?" she asked as she leaned forward. Her scent enticed him even more now. She smelled of sweet peaches; it was mouthwatering.

He belatedly realized that she was staring at his drawing.

"You're so talented," she whispered as she turned to look at him. "I wish I could draw like you."

His face heated up and he ran a hand, smudged by pencil, through his dark brown hair, suddenly embarrassed, "It's nothing."

"No it's not. You have a gift." Lynne said with a firm nod as she crossed her arms over her chest. "Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."

He felt it. Her confidence in him. "I won't." He said as warmth filled his heart.

Lynne let her arms fall beside her and smiled up at him, "Good."

Michael put his sketchbook and pencil back into his backpack and turned to her, "I'm sorry I didn't immediately come up to you. You just looked so perfect and peaceful, I had to draw it."

"I'm far from perfect." Lynne mumbled as her cheeks tinged pink.

Michael lifted his hand and gently stroked her cheek, "You are beautiful." He still couldn't believe that this amazing, kind, sweet girl in front of him was his. And he was hers.

"T-thank you." She stammered as she nervously straightened out her flowy skirt.

Michael didn't mind telling her every day how gorgeous she was. It was the truth. But he had been confused, especially in the beginning, when he found out that she had no problem genuinely complimenting others, but had such trouble accepting them for herself. But he guessed, in that aspect, they were alike. The more they spent time together, the easier it became for them to open up to each other. Michael could hardly believe that they'd been together for over one and a half years. How did he become so lucky?

Of course there were times like today, where he was so floored by her presence that he had trouble forming words – but that didn't matter. Lynne didn't make fun of him for it. She didn't tease him about it. She understood.

Michael smiled as he gently tucked a finger under her chin, "I love you."

Lynne's eyes shone with everything that she felt for him and she smiled, "I love you too."

Michael lowered his head and captured her lips in a kiss where he let everything flow, silently showing his heart. His heart filled as her lips returned all that she had for him, caressing him, loving him.

He was slightly breathless as they pulled apart. He couldn't stop staring at the girl in front of him. Her cheeks were flushed and her lips were slightly swollen. She looked absolute stunning. "Shall we go?" He asked her.

Lynne nodded as she clasped her hands in front of her, "Where are we going?"

"I found out that there's a book fair going on in the next city and thought you might like it. We could go there and have a late dinner."

Lynne's eyes widened in excitement, "Really?"

Michael knew of her love for books. Her tiny apartment was filled with old paperbacks and treasured hardcovers. When he first met her, she fished a couple of books out of her bag and lent them to him, claiming that he just had to read them. Michael smiled at the memory. He had been so infatuated with her, that he finished the three novels in one weekend. The brilliant smile on her face as he recited his favourite lines of each of the books to her was engraved in his heart. That was when he started falling for her.

Michael couldn't stop his grin from appearing. She was just so adorable. "Really."

Lynne let out an excited squeak and flung herself to him.

He caught her and wrapped his arms around her body.

"You smell nice." She mumbled against his shirt. "Like dew and warmth and pencils."

Michael chuckled as he squeezed her tighter against him, loving how she felt in his arms. He had known, for a while now, that he never wanted to part from her. This was true love. She was his future.
