Chapter 2

The men walked into the house, cautiously glancing at one another. Only Titus bothered to glance behind him and see the shadows closing in one them. He rushed into the house behind his comrades. He closed the door and walked to the window and pointed his gun out the window. Lights went on outside lighting up the yard for a five hundred yard radius around the entire house. He watched the shadows slink back and disappear.

"What the hell is going on and why were we sent to find you Private Bryan?" Titus turned around to find her standing behind him next to Ricky.

"No one told you guys what the hell you are hunting did they?" At the blank looks, Bryan sighed and took a seat in the semi darkness. She started to talk but was interrupted.

"Before we begin this tale, which I'm pretty sure ain't none of us gonna like, can we turn on the lights?" Jeremiah asked.

"No. The lights aren't needed. Your eyes will adjust. You all know about the experiments that led the darkness, correct? Well about twenty-five years ago, the government started experimenting again. Only this time on humans, so that they could maybe find a way to destroy what lives in the shadows and dominates the world. They tried with over thirty kids. Out of them only three of them were successful. Only the creatures that live in the shadows are not ready to give up control. Keep in mind that they may come from the shadows but not all of them live in the shadows. These creatures were myths two hundred years ago such as vampires and werewolves but not only those. The government messed up and created far more dangerous creatures that don't even have names."

"So what happened to the three kids?" George asked. But before Bryan could answer the lights went out.

"Two of them were captured and killed. IT's time to leave. They have found us." She got up and started throwing stuff into a bag. She rolled up three blankets and managed to stuff them in the bag then she got her croquet needles and yarn and grabbed the only three books that were sitting on the table. In a manner of minutes she was able to pack her entire house into one bag. While the guys watched she moved the table over and entered a code in a keypad no one else saw. The floor swung open to a large cave and tunnel. "We need to leave now." She jumped into the cave assuming the men would follow. While she waited for them to follow her she gathered up her weapons and strapped them on her body. The men stood back and watched as she loaded her person with knives and guns. She took her back pack off and threw in three bundles of yarn, some cards and dominoes.

"Do you think we are gonna have a lot of downtime or something?" Sam asked.

"Even the simplest things can be used as weapons. Especially things I make." She grabbed a deck of cards when the rooms rumbled above them. "Ricky? Do you mind if I call you that? It actually doesn't matter. Anyway open the latch." As soon as Ricky popped the latch just an inch, she started tossing the cards in a single fashion. "Run." She turned around and ran leaving the guys to follow her before the explosions started.

"This chick is weird." Sam tossed over his shoulder to Jeremiah. They laughed as they kept running barely avoiding the blast. They were outside in the night before they stopped and looked back. They looked back but could only see the night stars.

"Boys, please keep up." The voice came from above their heads. All of them looked up to see Bryan standing on top of a hill looking down. The hill had to be at least twenty feet high.

"How in the hell…" Ricky just trailed off and he shook his head. He started the climb expecting his men to follow him. They spent the next five minutes climbing and catching their breath. Bryan hitched her bag on her back. "How the hell are you carrying that bag? It has to weigh more than twenty pounds and you look like you are-"Ricky was cut off when four hands covered his mouth.

"I'm sure your Lieutenant wasn't going to say something incredibly stupid like this bag is too heavy for me. You can uncover his mouth." Bryan said without turning around. She chuckled and kept moving through the hill forestry. The men slapped him upside his head and kept going. Ricky stayed behind his men and rubbed his head.

The sun had just started to rise before anyone made a comment.

"Yo, we have been up for the last four days. When do we get to catch some z's?" Jeremiah asked.

"Haha, I sometimes forget that humans need sleep. Right now is a good time. Wherever you guys can find a spot go for it." She walked on as if she knew exactly where she was going. Ricky followed after making sure his men were settled.

He found her at a watering pool, already neck deep in the water. She stood up and ran her hands through her hair, which Ricky could see now was dark as night black. She stood with her back to him and he stopped breathing. All he saw was the smooth expanse of her back. Her hair was only to her shoulders so Ricky could see her narrow waist where the water stopped just above her bottom. He held his breath to make sure she didn't notice he was there. Without meaning to he took a step forward, right onto a dry leaf that crunched under his foot. She whipped around with her arms crossed over her chest, even then he could tell she was well-endowed since she nearly spilled out of her arms. Ricky turned around after seeing her expression. She clearly did not expect anyone to follow her or to be standing there.

"Sorry. I was just uh…." He trailed off as he felt hands run through his hair. He turned around to find her standing behind him wearing only a shirt. He knew she wasn't wearing a bra because her chest was still wet. He looked into her eyes and though she was staring straight at him he couldn't see anything in her eyes. She stripped off her shirt and after that, it was as if he was lost. He tried to resist but in the end he failed.

They woke up later that night by the watering pool. Bryan scooted away from Ricky confused. Ricky's mind was in a fog. The last thing he remembered was coming upon her in the watering pool.

"What the hell happened? Where are my clothes? Why are we naked? Did we do something earlier?" She rattled off the questions one after the other.

"Slow down. I don't know any more than you do. The last thing I remember is walking up to while you were in the water. You?"

"Um I don't know. I think it was turning around when I heard you." She sneezed. "Where the fuck are my clothes?" Ricky started to answer but saw no point as her clothes started to materialize on her.

"Well then ok. Mind doing that to me?" She did. "I think you need to explain. Now."

She nodded her head but made no move to speak. Ricky sat there waiting not moving until she started speaking. "I'm the third experiment."

"Oh told y'all there was a reason she was needed." A voice came from the bushes.

"I really don't see how you guys are SEALs when I heard you sixty feet away." Bryan's voice came from right next to the four men hiding in the bushes. She planted her foot against their bottoms, pushing them toward Ricky, before they knew she was there.
