This is based on a conversation I had in Shropshire over the weekend with a friend during my geography trip. I can't remember how we got on to this topic, but I found myself getting very in to it and, that night, I wrote this. I hope it's OK and I hope I don't hurt your brain too much. :-)

What is death?

What is death other than the end of a life? Is it the end of something or a start of something new? If you think about it then maybe there is something waiting for us at the end of the road; waiting to take us to our new home – wherever that may be.

Some people believe that there is nothing after our life is taken away. But what is nothing? No-one can visualise nothing because you're always envisioning something – even if it's just the darkness.

It's a hard concept to understand and no-one will ever really know what is at the end until the time comes for them to move on from this planet. For me, personally, I believe that there is something after we finish our lives on Earth. I have no idea to what that something is, but I do believe that life is only the beginning of a journey. I'm not with any religious faith or anything and I don't necessarily believe in heaven, but there is a chance that there is something. I guess what really fuels my thoughts on this is that you can't imagine nothing and we all have our own ways of filling the gaps in our knowledge that we will never know the answers to until we die.

So going back to the initial question of 'what is death?' I believe that it is the start of a new, eternal life that, somehow, maybe, uses what we achieved in this life in some way. This then, of course, brings us to another question: what is the meaning of life?
