I can't believe that I'm admitting this, but here I am, going to say it anyway: I think that Taylor Swift is good. Her type of music isn't something that I don't usually get into, seeing as I listen to 80's and 90's music (I'm embarrassed to say I also listen to Michael Bolton often), and to bands like the Birthday Massacre, Within Temptation, Sleeping With Sirens, Falling in Reverse, that stuff. However, I can't really deny that her music, especially pre-Red but Red isn't that bad either, is great.
She's okay as a person, even, though there's something a bit...off...about her. And you have to give her some sort of credit for writing her own songs. Even though she's gotten a little lazy with the lyrics lately, at least she can get up off her ass and write lyrics.
"But, Ophelia, she writes about her ex's all the time!"
Who the hell doesn't. I DO agree that it's easy to know which ex specifically she wrote it about, but she seems to be the only singer currently who gets the shit for writing about them, despite everyone else doing the same.
"But she's still a slut! Look at how many boyfriends she's had!"
That's the media's portrayal of Taylor Swift's love life. They make it sound like she's dated so many guys, when really, she hasn't had nearly as many as you'd think in the past six years she's been in the music industry.
Yes, she can be really immature in some of her songs, one reason I can't stand "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together". In fact, her Red radio singles aren't that excellent. However, beyond the hit singles, she's got some real gems, like "The Way I Loved You" and "Last Kiss".
Seriously, you people. She isn't nearly as bad as you make her seem.
