Simple Performance

Watching eyes and no applause,

Taking the stage, a lingering pause.

If only I could be so bold

So as to let my emotions take hold.

True thoughts spoken aloud;

Standing tall, standing proud.

But the thought is wishful thinking

For I am continually shrinking,

Hiding behind a mask.

A mask so perfectly

Practiced that the audience cannot see.

Waiting for a crack to reveal my sins,

That is how the performance begins.
