When I was young I wrote about love
I wrote about sadness
About anger.
Now I write about death,
And so will you,
For all of our stories converge there.
When I was young I had many fears,
So many predictions
On how it would all go wrong.
Now I have just one.
I have been robbed by death.
Once was too much.
Twice
Was inevitable.
I have been robbed by death,
And you will be too.
When I was young I avoided life,
I did not understand it.
It was unknown
And I was afraid.
Now I know
That there is just one thing to know.
So I run as fast as I can,
I drink it all down,
I take as much as I am allowed.
I cannot be young for any longer.
I have been robbed by death.
And you will be too.
