Once upon a time,

My heart was an open book.

It was carefree and spontaneous,

It had a pretty look.

One day, someone came and took my heart,

It took my breath away.

But then they handed it back to my,

It was in a disarray.

I tried to piece it together,

I feared it wouldn't work.

But I got it back together,

With just some minor quirks.

I built a picket fence around,

To keep predators at bay.

It worked for a little while,

But it didn't keep them all away.

Not once, not twice, but thrice it's been torn,

I guess I wasn't smart.

Each time I would build a higher wall,

In hopes to protect my heart.

Now there is a fortress round,

Walls so thick, no one can beat about.

I know no one can enter in,

But I'm finding, neither can I get out.
