Gleaming high up in the sky,
A diamond on a velvet shroud;
Shining down from way up high,
Far above the wispy clouds.

Gleaming down from outer space,
Dipped in silver, glowing light;
Swooping down to touch my face,
And dispel the Stygian black of Night.

You cut a path across the sky,
And left behind a silver trail.
You're falling now, I know not why,
To vanish in the Night's dark veil.

Now far above me winks another,
To take your place, wherever you are.
Too late, I close my eyes to wish.
To wish upon a falling star.
