Meeting the Fam

I looked in the mirror as Christine put the finishing touches on my hair. I looked amazing. I had a one shoulder, white, shimmery dress that went a few inches above my knee and my hair was down in perfect ringlets.

I slipped into my strappy high heels and left for my boyfriends mother's house. According to Ben, said boyfriend, his whole family would be there for the annual Thanksgiving dinner, which I didn't understand since it was still a week until thanksgiving. We decided after four months, it was time to meet the family. I typed the address into my GPS and started to drive. Thank God I left early, since it was going to take me an hour to get there at least.

Just 10 minutes into my drive, it started to rain. It started as sprinkling but gradually got harder in the duration of my drive.

When I finally got to his mom's house, I realized that I would have to park at least a block from his house to get a spot. That might not sound like a lot but remember I was in 5 inch heels and it was storming out.

Once I find a parking spot I began my slow decent to the beautiful red brick house. By the time I got there I knew I was soaked. But for some reason I still knocked.

A woman I knew had to be Ben's mother opened the door "Hello, how may I help you?"

I attempted to seem friendly "Hello, I'm Kat Jones, Ben's girlfriend. Sorry for my appearance, I had to park a block away from your lovely home and the rain was not very forgiving." I smiled nervously at her.

Her eyes widened "Oh you poor girl! Come in, come in! We need to dry you off," she ushered me in and closed the door behind me "I'll go get Ben, you can probably wear some of his old clothing. White clothing and rain is never a good combination." She hurried off to get her son while I waited awkwardly.

Within a minute, Ben was rushing up to me, wide eyed "Oh, Kitty Kat. Why weren't you wearing a coat?" He asked, grabbing my hand

."I didn't think I would need one. We live in LA, so I wasn't really expecting rain." I explained while he led me upstairs and into a bathroom.

"You can dry off in here while I go grab you something to wear." He closed the door behind him and left for my clothes. I turned I the mirror and cringed at my reflection. My curls were gone and my make up smeared. Then I looked at my dress. Dear God. It had gone almost completely see through and it had pink droplets still running down it. I had recently dyed my hair dark red and when it was wet it turned water pink and it was obviously very wet. Great, my boyfriends mom's first impression of me was me looking like a Grade A mess in a clingy dress that showed a lot. Perfect.

A knock came from the door "Hey Kat, is it safe to come in? I come bringing clothes and towels." My boyfriend asked.

"Yeah." Ben came in and handed me everything "Here you go, I'll be waiting just out side the door." And then he was once again. I stripped down and dried off before looking at my clothing options. Ben had brought me a ACDC shirt that I would practically drown in and a pair of basketball shorts that would go half way down my calves. Beggars can't be choosers. I changed and used the wash cloth he gave me to wipe off my make up. Then I wrapped my hair in a towel. Going to my boyfriends thanks giving dinner dressed in his clothes. Great first impression.

"Where should I put my dress?" I asked the door.

The door answered in Ben's voice "Hang it and the wash cloth on the shower curtain rail thing." I did as he said and walked out the bathroom.

"I'm sorry, Ben I'm going to ruin your thanksgiving dinner." I sighed."No your going to make it more interesting. Besides, a few others got caught in the rain and got wet. You just got the worst of the rain" He smiled at me "Let's go get some food in you." He led me downstairs and into a room full of people. I estimate, 13ish.

I bit my lip, "Hello everyone. I'm Kat, Benjamin's girlfriend. Nice to meet you." I blushed profusely and looked at the floor.

Ben's mom hurried up to me "Hello Darling, I'm glad you got yourself sorted out. I'm sorry about your dress, it was lovely. Too bad the rain got you, but you still look absolutely beautiful." She did that weird rich woman thing where they kiss you once on each cheek. "We saved you a seat between Benny boy and His older brother Jesse." She led Ben and I to our seats.

I turned to Jesse, "Hi" He was the spitting image of Ben, only less nerdy and more Jock. He had the same tousled dark brown hair and the same goofy smile with the same twinkle in his eyes. But he was missing Ben's key accessory. Ben had a stuffed monkey with Velcro hands that he wore round his neck every day, the monkey's name was of course Voldemort. Even tonight he wore his monkey with his suit. My boyfriend was a strange man.

"So your Baby Benny's girlfriend? How'd he manage to get a pretty girl like you with him?" Jesse asked.

I turned to Ben and raised an eyebrow "Benny Boy? Baby Benny? That's cute."

Ben blushed "Shut up! They called me that when I was a little, I guess I never grew out of it." His ears turned pink in the sweetest way possible.

I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek, "It's still really cute, Baby Benny."

"Oh shut up Kitty Kat," Ben mumbled

I turned back to Jesse "I have no idea how I ended up with this fool. He's lucky he's cute." I joked.

"Please, he isn't cute. I'm cute. He's just a nerd." Jesse laughed and laid back.

"I'm a nerd and I'm cute. Why can't he be a cute nerd?" I fluttered my eyelashes sarcastically

Jesse laughed, "Girl nerds are cute, guy nerds are not. Guy nerds are gross"

I laughed "Oh really?"

Jesse nodded in mock seriousness "Yes, its a known fact."

"Interesting observation, where is your proof for your theory?"

"Exhibit A Ben and you. You are a nerd girl and very attractive. Ben is a nerd boy and quite unattractive."

I raised an eyebrow "You do realize you and your brother are almost identical?"

Jesse held his hand to his heart, pretending to be offended "What is the blasphemy? Who told you these lies? What is there name? They must pay for what they have done!"

I laughed "Whatever. By the way, do you play any sports? You like the sports type."

Jesse squared his large shoulders proudly while Ben mumbled, "Don't get him started..."

"I play football, baseball, basketball and track. I have brought all my teams to the championship several times and I'm always voted team captain and Most Valuable Player..." He went on to talk about the positions he played and all of that stuff.

Ben's Father, I recognized him from pictures, sat at the head of the table "Okay guys, we've had time to socialize, its time for dinner. But first a prayer. Now usually if we have a special guest for the first time, they lead us in the lord's prayer. As you know we have Ben's Girlfriend, Kat is here. Kat, would you like to lead us in the prayer."

I shifted in my chair, uncomfortably, "Actually I'm an Atheist, so I don't know the lord's prayer" I blushed and looked down.

There was an awkward moment of silence before Ben's father smiled and cleared his throat, "That's alright. I will." Every one bowed there head, so I did as well, Ben's father said the prayer and I just sat and listened, awkwardly. At the Amen I looked up with everyone else.

"Let's eat!" Ben's dad said enthusiastically, there was cheers in response.

I served myself mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, some brownies and pumpkin pie.

Ben's mother sat at the opposite end of the table, next to Jesse, frowned at my plate "Hun, that's all you're eating? What about turkey? Chicken?"

I blushed for what seemed like the millionth time tonight "Um I'm a vegetation..."

Her hostess smile cracked a little "An atheist and a vegetarian who shows up soaked and has to change into Baby Benny's clothes. You have one interesting Girlfriend Benny."

Ben smiled "That's why I like her." He wrapped his arm around my waist and gave me a squeeze. I blushed and looked at my plate.

"I like him because he's cute. There's nothing else interesting about him" I joke.

"I'm perfectly okay with that" Ben agreed.

"Good, cause if you weren't, we'd probably have a problem" I smiled up at him.

The dinner continued peacefully, though I could here Ben's three aunts gossiping about anything and everything through out most of the dinner.

After dinner Ben walked me to the door and handed me my clothes and some leftovers "You survived. Congrats."

"I did with some embarrassing moments." I smiled.

"Ya but last year Jesse brought his girlfriend at the time and she came in a dress so short it looked like a shirt. She had the loudest make up of all time and 9 inch high heels. She looked like a street walker. Mom's reaction to her was hilarious and Uncle Louis asked how much he bought her for. It was a train wreak."

"I bet."
"Call me when you get home." He kissed me on the fore head. "If you don't I will be forced to assume you died in a terrible accident and that would be most unpleasant."

"Okay, bye."

"Bye love."

I walked to my car, the rain had stopped, thank god. I drove home and gossiped to Christine about the event and his family. Then I agreed to try to set her up with his brother, like the good friend I am.
