This is a companion novel to Living Forgotten. It goes along the same time line.
If you asked Carli how old she was, she would proudly say "I am 6 and 3/4!" which wasn't really true but no one question her. She turned 6 last month. The birthday party was princess themed, of course. Carli wore a purple dress, and Kalli, who was still 5 1/2, wore a pink one. They both wore 'queen' crowns while all the little girls around them had 'princess' crowns. As the 'queens' they got to tell everyone what to do and get the biggest cake slices, of course. It was an awesome day,
Carli's birthday was gone now. She laid in her bed reminiscing about that day. She wanted to play but her Mommy said it was bedtime. Carli was to scared to go to bed...daddy might come. Daddy was nice, during the day. He always gave her extra long hugs and kisses before school and reminded her that he loved her. To any outside onlooker, he would look like an amazing, loving dad. But behind doors, at night it was a different story. He would sneak in room. He would seat on her bed, keeping the lights off. He would tell her he loved her and rub her body. Carli didn't like it but daddy did and she wanted to be a good girl and make her daddy happy. But it hurt her. She did what he told her even if it made her hurt. She even didn't tell mommy.
She knew that daddy wouldn't come but she was still scared. She laid in bed, shivering. The blanket wasn't warming her. She listened to the rain.
She always thought that rain was the tears of angels, crying about the state of the world. Carli felt bad for the angels. They shouldn't have to cry for other people. Other people should have to deal with their own problems. The little girl began to cry. She hated crying. Crying made her daddy angry. Angry daddy was a mean daddy. Mean daddy hurt and was rough with Carli.
Carli cried with the angels and wished they could wipe each others tears. She heard footsteps going up to her door and the door opening. Daddy did come. Carli wiped her tears. The angels couldn't save her tonight.
