Prologue

The world is primarily composed of two different types of people. There are many names for these people, but I like to keep things simple, so I tend to break them down into Passive players and Active players.

Passive players are the majority of the population. They are the NPCs. The side character in the novel. The victims that must be saved. Sure, they can help progress the story, but they are only in this world to enhance the protagonist. For the most part, they are left alone. Unless the story calls for someone to die for hero angst, in which case there is a good chance a Passive player is about to bite it. This stands to be especially true if you happen to be a Passive female and the hero is a male. Nothing moves a story like cheap angst.

Remember that when you decide to start dating.

Active players are the heroes. They tend to have a type and I'm sure you can list off the traits yourself. Attractive. Charming. Blah blah blah. It doesn't really matter though, anyone can be an Active player just so long as they are the center of attention and everything revolves around them, even if they ignore this fact. They are the main character, the protagonist, and the hero. The story, and the world, is based around them and their actions. Without them, the world would be extremely boring.

Also extremely safe, but that is a whole 'nother matter.

Now among the Active players, I find that there are two distinct groups. There are those who think they are average, but are actually extraordinary and there are those that are extraordinary, but pretending to be average.

Well, I guess that's not entirely true. Rarely you get a character that is extraordinary and is well aware of that fact, but most of the time they end up as an antagonist and become a villain. You could count them as Active players, depending on what kind of story this is, but for the most part they are actually Passive players. Most of the time the villain only exists to further the actions of the hero, but sometimes they are actually the main character. If this happens, they tend to be extremely charming and devilishly attractive. Somehow, this will nullify most of the terrible things they do.

Yeah, I realize it really can get confusing at times. There is a lot of contradicting information and at times the rules can go flying right out the window, so just try and keep up, alright?

Now as for me?

Well, I don't really like when things are confusing. Personally, I prefer to keep things very simple, very quiet, and very safe.

That is why I am a Passive player, and I will do anything to keep it that way.

I am not the hero of this story.
