She was kind enough to leave her fingerprints
A few strands of hair
The sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach
When you wake up
Reach for her
And she's not there.
The taste of salt on your lips
And the grains of sand beneath the sheets
Evokes the image of an ocean
And a shipwreck against the reef.
She was always singing cryptic verses
Of lungs splayed and waterlogged
It made you wonder if you deserved this
Another victim of her siren's song.
My Captain, she would whisper
My Pirate, she would coo
I long to be the figurehead on your bow
And carve the waves for you.
My Captain! she cries out
When your diet turns to lead
Have heart, my dear pirate,
Don't abandon ship just yet.
