When you are young, all you do is dream of being a grown up. You dream of kissing boys and getting married and of being able to do what you want. You are innocent and naive but at least you have hope.
When you are in your early teens, you can't wait to be a grown up, go to parties and do what you want. You dream of sneaking out and making out. Of going to clubs and being popular. You are no longer completely naive and you still have some hope left.
When you are in your late teens you can't wait to get out of the house and grown up. You're tired of your parents being on your back about every single thing you do. You want to be in control of your own life.
When you're in your 20s you can't wait to be a 'real' adult. To get your life together. Finish college, get a job and settle down. You want to be stable.
When you are middle aged you can't wait to get old and retire. To not have anyone to support anymore. To sleep all day. You can't wait to have a rest.
When you are in your early teens, you are also scared of growing up. Of being bullied or hated. Of failing. Of having no friends or having a single mistake ruin your life. You are scared of mistakes.
When you are in your late teens, you are terrified of growing up. Not getting into college. Not getting a good job. Being bankruptcy or stuck in your parents house forever. You are scared you won't grow up.
When you are in your 20s your scared your life won't be how you hoped and planned. That your degree will be worthless. That you'll be stuck in a low paying job forever. That you won't be a good parent. You are scared of life.
When you are middle aged, you are scared you messed up your you raised your kids wrong. That you picked the wrong job. That you should have done something else. You are terrified of the past.
When you are old you are scared you will die. You're scared about what happens after. Both in the after life sense and your family sense. Scared you beleived wrong. Scared your family might not be able to move on. You are scared of the inevitable.
We waste our lives waiting on the future and yearning for the simpler past. We don't live in the now because of fears and anticipations. This is our mistake. You can't avoid the future or go back to the part. Or vise versa. Live in the moment because you can't control life. Stop worrying about the future and past and just live in the now.
