Chapter Three

"Bruh, humans are already half centar."

My eyes grow wide as my voice hitches in my thoat. "Bruh..."

We're two and a half hours into our trip, not that I would know considering I just woke up from a nap. Seriously, if it weren't for the fact that my phone tells me how long we've been on the road, I might not even know that we've left Sioux Falls at all. But hey, that's the way to travel as far as I'm concerned. Even if my wig needed an insane amount of readjusting after I woke up. I'm just happy I thought far enough in advance to take off my wings and hand them to James before I zonked. I have no idea what I would do if anything happened to those.

Hailey groans from behind the wheel. Her and Zoey must have switched places at some point during my nap. "Is this what you guys call a revelation?"

I roll my eyes, before making them go wide and reaching up, bringing my hands close in to my temples before quickly pulling them away to show how he just blew my mind. "I don't think I can go on living with this new discovery."

"I know, right?"

"I'm stopping this conversation right now," Hailey cuts in before I have a chance to respond. "I feel like I can take a lot from the two of you, but this is just going too far."

"So this means we're already half mer-people, too." James grabs a hold of one of my shoulders.

"My dream of being a mermaid has been half realized!" I cry, fist pumping the hand that he isn't currently holding hostage.

"You two are idiots." Zoey moans, but not quite being able to hide the smile that's fighting its way across her face.

"Under the sea!" I begin to sing. "Under the sea! Darling it's better down where it's wetter, take it from me!" I clear my throat and lean back in my seat. "Alright, I'm done now."

Up front, my best friends' shoulders are shaking in barely contained laughter. They aren't used to having to play the sane ones of our group, that's usually my job.

We're silent for a few minutes, despite the few mutterings of chitter chatter. I lean up against the window again and close my eyes, prepared to attempt and fall back asleep as a light but annoying headache begins to set in. I suffer from horrible motion sickness, which makes these types of trip their own type of living hell for me.

However, before I'm able to slip back into my blissful slumber, I'm disturbed by someone jabbing my side. I crack one eye open to see James smirking over at me, holding up a book called Gentle Rogue, a novel by Johanna Lindsey-or as my father prefers to call her; the author of my mom's and I's porn. Gentle Rogue is my favorite of all her books, rivaled only by A Man To Call My Own.

He gives me the evil eye, before opening the book up to a seemingly random page and beginning to read in the highest, most obnoxious voice he can. Once he does, it becomes obvious that this is anything but spontanious. Clearly he's been planning this probably since I've been asleep. Though how he got a hold of my mother's book-and I can tell it's hers due to the curl and fold the bottom corner has-is beyond me. That book rarely leaves her shelf unless one of us is reading it.

"Stop reading a sex scene like that!" Zoey whines, shfiting uncomfortably in her chair. "You're turning me off!"

I raise my eyebrow up at her, a smirk crossing my face. "You were turned on before?"

"Compared to now? Yes!"

"That's disturbing." I reach out and yank the book out of his hands. "And give that back! How many times do I have to tell you not to touch my books?!"

"Well, clearly you haven't told me enough." he replies with a shrug. "And I just figured you would enjoy having a good read for the stay."

I raise an eyebrow at him, "We're going to be gone for one night, James. When do you think I'm going to have the time to read?"

He shrugs again. "I was just trying to be thoughtful."

I roll my eyes, before unzipping my dufflebag and carefully setting it in there. Some may call me crazy for how over protective I am of it, but I can't help it. Johanna Lindsey books are meant to be treated with respect.

"I hope you guys aren't going to be pussies when we get there." I sigh, shaking my head as I zip my luggage back up. "Because there's no way I'm going to deal with three bozos clinging to me all night."

"We're not pussies." Zoey pouts.

"Please, you all were practically shitting your pants during The Exorcist."

"That's normal!" she shoots back. "You're the one who's weird for laughing at it!"

"Well, what can I say?" I shrug. "The paranormal has never scared me. Seriously, though. You're not going to be hanging on me right?"

"No, we won't."

"Promise?"

"On our lives."

"Next year, we dressin up as Supernatural?"

"Hell yeah."

MSCSMFK

It's still disapointingly light out when we finally reach Valley Scare, which serves to sadden me even more. Thankfully, we manage to find a nearby hotel where we can check in at, and spend the two hours we have free swimming and hanging out in our room.

However, this means we all get the joy of changing into our costumes for a second time.

Yeah, we clearly didn't think this through.

By the time the sun has finally sunk behind the horizon, we're all ready-again-and are practically sprinting out the door. We've lucked out in finding a hotel that's only a couple of blocks away from the theme park, so we don't even need to start up Zoey's car to get there.

The place is huge, and definitely not a disapointment when we finally arrive.

"Let's go to the rides, first!" Hailey says, practically foaming at the mouth as she stares at the rollercoaster car that flies past us. The stupid adrenaline junky she is.

"No, the haunted house." James argues, pointing at the map that Zoey holds in her hands.

"Nuh-uh, we'll save the haunted house for when we need to cool down." I shake my head, "We need to hit the maze first."

Zoey just smiles behind us, probably knowing that we'll get to them all either way and so doesn't care. The stupid bitch. She's the only one who's been here before, so she can just remain calm about the whole thing.

"Kiera?" a shocked familiar voice breaks into our argument.

Fuck.
