Fate Again

Epilogue

As Samantha opened the door, the scent of good food hit her nose and then her mouth started salivating. But the only question which hit her was where Jared was.

As she searched through the kitchen where the scent wafted in the entire house, she came across Lily. She was the maid they had hired two years ago; she was very gentle given her age beyond the forties and motherly especially when she would slip once in a while to peek at William.

But she never ever posed as harm, not when she looked so motherly and often helped in tending the small garden Samantha had wanted. Her black hair which was often in a bun was now down with her black eyes laughing at her as she bid her employer goodbye.

"Okay." She murmured awkwardly and lifted the lid of the casserole.

'Damn, it smelled so good.'

The urge to grab a spoon and dug through the yellowish orange spicy chicken curry had her saliva in her mouth dropping as she closed the lid, fighting with the temptation of digging through the new Spanish recipe. Lily was always a good cook but more than that she was a good person.

Samantha climbed the stairs bare footed when she couldn't see Jared and then stopped when she reached the threshold of the nursery. Her heart swelled and melted inch by inch by the picture the father and son made.

The window was wide opened, sending the curtains flying around light streaming through them as William gurgled as Jared caught him in his arms when he sent him up. William's chubby arms were pounding lightly on his father's chest as he rested his small head with silky black hair on the curve and pretended to sleep.

The nursery was bright with orange, purple, blue and green vibrant colors. On one wall huge white clouds were painted and another there were the round and bright stars as colors erupted in the cozy and cheery room.

"What's going here?" Samantha asked lightly and hugged Jared from behind. Her lips puckered William on the forehead.

The moment her lips touched the soft forehead the baby opened his eyes and laughed when her mother outstretched her arms to take him in her arms.

"There's my boy." Samantha as she stood near the window, William playing with flowing curtains as the scent of the roses she had planted came up to the window.

"I knew you'll be up here."

Samantha said as she swirled William around.

"I just can't resist him." Jared said as he placed a kiss on his son's forehead.

"And you." He whispered when he kissed her lips, once and then twice.

He saw the flush which crept into her cheeks and closed his laptop which has been lying on the floor since William had opened his little green eyes. For the past year he found it exhilarating to see his son opening his eyes, yawn a little a bit and fuss around until someone came to give him a little visit.

"Mama." William said and then rose to give his mother a kiss on the mouth just like his father had done a while ago.

"Liam." Samantha whispered when she dropped a kiss on his nose and then concealed his face in the crook of her neck.

"Geez, don't look at him like that." Samantha said harshly.

"Nobody and I repeat nobody kisses my wife on the mouth." He said and then settled William in his arms.

He frowned at his son but then smiled when William dropped a kiss on the frown of his mouth.

"He's too cute to get angry at him."

"So say his grand dada and grand mama." Samantha said as she picked a stuffy butterfly and replaced in the cradle.

"When are they going to be back?" Jared asked as he picked his laptop and rested it on the worktable he had shifted to watch out an eye whenever Samantha was at work or maybe to just admire the good looks of his son.

"Soon, very soon."

"Yeah?" Jared asked when he saw his son's face lighten at the announcement of his grandparents' arrival and was glad Charles and Lisa would be back. After Charles' retirement he had gifted him a trip to Venice and was hoping they were enjoying themselves here.

"By Sunday they will be back. We are all meeting at the beach house."

The beach house was another change in their life, every weekend they would there. It was an easy investment by the three males with the equal capital put together. It gave them all the big family time they had needed after marriage and the hardships often occurring at work.

"We are going to meet your cousins Kayla and Josh on Sunday." Jared sang as he made his way down to the kitchen.

Kayla and Josh were such delightful kids, especially Kayla who was one year elder than William but two years smaller than Josh.

Josh had taken after Malory's eyes and attitude while sweet little Kayla had taken after her father's mouth and patience.

"Let me have him. My baby." Samantha said as she settled on the stool with William while Jared chopped bell peppers and carrots for the salad.

"So, how's your new book going on?"

"Good. Actually very good. In two weeks' time it'll be completed then they will be on the shelves for selling." Jared said and popped a piece of carrots in his mouth.

"Hmm." Samantha nodded absentmindedly and then whispered 'I love you.' to Jared who still reciprocated her love or maybe reciprocated twice her love.

But the bottom line was they were all happy with their little abode they had created. Even Marcus had found a red headed woman with dazzling green eyes. They were happy, Jared noticed when little William had dozed off on her mother's shoulder after his dinner.

"I'll put him in bed. Go on writing Mr Writer" Samantha whispered as she stroked hand on his cheek.

And as she knew, he had been following behind her as he opened the door of the nursery and they tucked little William to sleep together.

"You know now that Liam's grown, maybe we could try for a second baby. And this time I want a girl, just like you."

"Uh huh and maybe she would give Kayla some company as well amidst all the boys." She whispered conspiratorially as she hooked her arms behind his neck.

"Good idea. Let's get started." Jared said as he took her in his arms and closed the door slowly with the back of his foot.

"I love you."

"Love you too." He said as he nuzzled her neck and felt her shivered.

And it was a little girl that god had bestowed upon them, with her chubby cheeks and black hair and dreamy blue eyes, though she had received Jared's mouth and dimples.

And every Sunday they would meet together at the beach house, sometimes for a sleepover with Marcus and his wife Brianna tagging along with their twins for a good family time. They continued to cruise through the absurdities of life fate sent them through and succeeded with love and faith as a reward.
