Tax groaned before hitting his head against the lunch table. "I don't get girls."
Jared clapped him on the back. "Welcome to the club, my friend."
"What's up with the Queen now?" Mark asked, taking a bite of his sandwich.
"Y-you make no sense sometimes!"
"Love never makes sense, Tax Montgomery."
"L-love?!"
"Yes, love."
Liam burst out laughing, almost falling out of his seat. "She really said that?!"
Tax narrowed his eyes. "Stop it. It's nothing to laugh about."
Toby chuckled. "Are you kidding? This is priceless. She likes you, man."
Tax's mouth dropped. "She does?" He grabbed Toby by his shoulders, his eyes wide with hope. "Does she really? Are you sure?"
Jared rolled his eyes. "Calm down, dude. Toby's only guessing here. No one knows what the Queen's thinking."
Tax sighed. "Damn it. Why do girls have to be so complicated?"
"Oh, come on. They're not that bad," said Mark. "And the Queen may not be that hard to figure out. What if Quinn's been watching you just like you've been watching her? It's always possible, you know."
They all looked at one another before bursting out in laughter, Mark and Tax included.
"AS IF!"
I plopped myself at my and Rena's regular lunch table and groaned. "I don't get boys."
Rena raised a brow. "What's happened now?"
"I practically spelled it out for him, but the boy still hasn't got a hint," I said. "Why doesn't he understand? Here I am, throwing myself at him, and he's not doing anything about it."
Rena shrugged. "Maybe he's just that dense."
I scoffed. "No one can be 'that dense.' No, it has to be something else. Maybe the problem is me. What if I'm not pushing enough?"
My best friend rolled her eyes. "Puh-leaze. Tax wouldn't get it even if you jumped him. Trust me. The boy's dense as osmium."
"Osmium?"
Rena nodded gravely. "Yes. Osmium."
I blinked. "I'm screwed, aren't I?"
"Very much so."
