Nicolette sat at one of her families weekly Sunday dinners nervously. This was the first one she went to after she found out she was pregnant and figured since everyone, well mostly everyone since it was a big family, was together that now was as good of a time as any. This was she could do it in one shot. Everyone, for the most part, knew that she and Brandon were broken up and figured that she just acting strangely because it was a bad one, not because she had huge news to drop.
The Jacobs family was a huge family based in tradition and community. Everyone was there for each other when they could. So, Nicolette was hoping that the same could be said for this instance because Nicolette's family wasn't quite exactly what you would call typical. She came from a family of fairies. It was a strange thing for even Nicolette to grasp and she grew up in it. Fairies are a very diverse group. They ranged in every possible way they could.
Evelyn just happened to have the ability to control emotions and through that, she could control people. She was very good at it but tried not to use it on her family unless she had to which in her mind was still too often for most people's comfort. Evelyn's late husband and Nicolette's father was a telepath. Between the two of them, Nicolette and her siblings couldn't get away with anything. Nicolette, on the other hand, was an elemental fairy and could use fire as she saw fit. It probably was what contributed to her fiery temper.
Fairies were very chill about the whole interspecies dating thing, so Nicolette wasn't worried about them freaking out about not having a child with someone who wasn't one of their own, but none the less she was worried. She was worried that they would then go and hunt Brandon down. With their combined powers they definitely could, but Nicolette didn't want that. She didn't want him there grudgingly but wanted him to want to be there with her and their child. Her family was a tight knit group so they might not see it that way.
Nicolette made eye contact with her mother knowing that she needed to get it out there sooner rather than later and Evelyn nodded. "Everyone, Nicolette has something she wants to tell you all." Evelyn proclaimed and the room was silent, all eyes on Nicolette. Nicolette fidgeted and nervously looked at her mother. Evelyn just nodded at her encouragingly knowing Nicolette needed to do this by herself. "Well, um… I-I'm… I'm pregnant." she stuttered out and closed her eyes. Everyone was happy. They all were congratulating her and happy to know another little one would be added to their clan. Then one person, and it had to be Nicolette's older brother said, "So is this why Brandon left you?" The whole room stopped. Nicolette knew her brother meant it in an inquisitive way, but it stung none the less.
"Yeah, I was told to get rid of it or he would leave." Nicolette eeked out. Nicolette's Aunt touched her shoulder reassuringly and said, "Well good riddance we don't need that type of negativity in this family anyways. I can sense that this baby is gonna' need all the good energy it can get."
Nicolette felt tears slowly fill her eyes because of all of the love and reassurance she was feeling in the room. She knew that she wasn't going to have to worry about anything for this child.
