Chapter 1: The First Dragon

Inside a chamber, a woman was peacefully sleeping in her bed. She put her white sheet over her nose and slowly breathed with the sound of the wind gently blowing through the window. It was disturbed when a sudden flash of light blasted through the sky followed by an earthquake.

The woman suddenly woke up and asked "What was that?" she was Caucasian woman with blue eyes and long orange hair. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She felt the energy surrounding her disturbed by an unnatural cause she was so aware off, "I can feel magic is in the air. Someone casted a spell near here."

She climbed off her bed and put her long scarlet dress with a magenta belt and a necklace with a golden star on it. She added her red ribbon around her hair and walked through the pale blue living room, which had only a couch and a television.

Once outside, the white moon and the golden moon shined through the sky with stars, covering the green plain of a large farm the woman lived in. She looked around and tried to feel the magical energy that woke her up. It wasn't long before she found out as she perceived the unstable energy coming from the south. She dashed toward it, wondering what could hide there as she ran with her bare foot on the soft grass until she reached the source.

She stopped when she spotted something resting on the ground. As she approached closer, the light of the moon revealed that there was a living being painfully grunting as a pool of blood formed under it.

The woman raised her hand and said "I need some light," before chanting an incantation. A ball of light formed on her hand and the woman clearly saw the living being creating the pool of blood. It was a tall and lightly chubby being with crimson scales on his body, a silver horn on his snout and two horns over his eyes. The being wore nothing and lied naked on the ground.

The woman gasped as she put her free hand over her mouth. She dashed near it and put her fingers on the neck, "Still breathing. I have to act and fast."

The being gasped and opened his two green eyes with yellow iris for a second, looking at the woman, but barely seeing anything with his blurry vision.

"Don't worry. Everything is going to be fine," she told him.

"B-Beware. Be-beware. T-they," the being barely said with his masculine voice before closing his eyes.

The light in her hand disappeared. She took a deep breath and her hands were covered with symbol made of light, "Save your strength. I'll save you."

Inside the living room of the woman house, a large white sheet was added at the middle of the room while the couch had been moved against the wall. A low grunt resonated under the sheet. The sheet moved as something moved under it before it was tossed aside.

It was the being with crimson scales sat on the ground. His forehead, chest, arms and legs were covered with bandages tainted with dry blood. He put his hands over his chest and painfully grunted painfully when it resonated inside his body. He felt everything around him shaking and waving. He put his hand on the ground and made sure he didn't fall.

"You're up," a feminine voice told him as if she was surprised it was the case.

He turned toward the voice and saw a woman standing at the entrance of the living room. She gently smiled at him and walked closer, "How are you feeling?"

The scaly being didn't reply. He watched her for a while. He smelled the woman and eventually, his lips moved, "Painful."

The woman replied, "Your wounds are closed at least and- Silly me," she lightly giggled, leaving the scaly being confused, "I forgot to present myself. I'm a human and my name is Melissa. What is your name?"

The scaly being turned his head toward a window, looking at the blue sky, "Dragon. The name is Crimson."

"Welcome in my home Crimson. You can stay here until you are healed," Melissa gently told him.

The dragon blinked twice as he turned back toward her. He felt his balance weakening and stood there until his balance was stable, "Thanks."

He was about to try and stand up when the woman dashed near him and put her hands on his shoulders and pushed him, "You can't stand up now. You are still wounded and you are too weak. You have to rest for now."

The dragon was twice taller than her and could easily overpower her, but in his current state, she was stronger than him and forced him to lie back on the ground before covered him with the sheet. Crimson grumbled a little as his cheeks lightly turned redder in shame, "I am not a kid."

"Then you know why you need to rest and not stand up," Melissa replied with a smile.

Crimson was taken off-guard by her reply and turned his back on her, saying nothing else.

The woman giggled and walked outside the living room, "Are you thirsty or hungry?"

"Thirsty."

"I'll get a glass of water for you."

"Thanks," the dragon politely replied, although a hint of annoyance resonated in his throat.

He put his hands on his forehead and felt the bandage. He closed his eyes and wondered how he ended up with his wounds. He realised he didn't know that answer and checked why he could end this injured. Once again, nothing was ringing a bell, "Memory lost," he concluded before checking his memories quickly. He knew who he was, what he was, his childhood and his adulthood, but not how he ended up in this house.

Melissa came back with a glass of water and gave put it near him, "There. So you lost your memory?"

"You heard me?" Crimson asked.

"Yes. It's quiet in my house and I can hear almost everything," she answered.

"Bothersome," the dragon grumbled. He took the glass of water and looked at it a little confused. He tilted it left and right and watched the water moving. He opened his mouth and dropped everything in his mouth. He gave it back to her and thanked her.

"No problem. You are my patient after all," Melissa gently replied.

Crimson yawned loudly and made some noise with his mouth.

"I'll let you rest. I have to make sure my field is fine. I'll be back later," she concluded before leaving the dragon alone.

Once he was alone, the dragon wondered what his choices were. He pushed the sheet aside and checked where he was bandaged. He saw the dry blood and that it was covering most of his body, "Low on blood," he realised before picking the only present option in his current situation, rest. He put the sheet back on and closed his eyes.

When the red sun reached his highest peak, Melissa returned with a smile on her face and without any trace of dirt on her. Despite that, she was sweating and lightly panting. She heard a loud sound and it was obvious who was making it. She took a peek in the living room and the dragon was indeed the source, snoring loudly.

Crimson had pushed the sheet away and rested on his stomach with his back expose to the sun. Since he wasn't shivering, the woman concluded that he was fine that way and didn't indispose the resting dragon.

The woman walked in the kitchen. It was an ordinary kitchen with the usual furniture; fridge, microwave, oven, table, chairs, etc. and painted in blue sky color. She took direction of the fridge when the phone rang on the wall of the kitchen near the table. Melissa heard a loud sound in the living room as she took the phone and quickly checked as she answered.

"Hello," she said. Crimson was awake and on the side, painfully grunting. She guessed he tried to stand up when the phone rang and felt on his wounded arm and flank.

"Hey there Melissa. How's it going in the farm?" a male voice asked.

Melissa smiled, "Everything is fine as ever Panth. Why did you call?"

"I was wondering if I can pursuit my studying with you Melissa. I'm still practicing, but I think I need some help with the spell book you gave me," Panth asked.

Melissa turned toward the crimson dragon who continued painfully grumbling, "I'm sorry Panth, but I got a patient to treat."

"Patient?" Panth asked.

"Yes. I found him almost agonising outside my house and I decided to treat him until he's better. His name is Crimson and he's not really a talker. Most people will probably find him boring," Melissa said before looking at the dragon that was glaring at her. She raised her shoulder and silently telling him that was the impression he gave her.

"Okay... Maybe another time. Call me when you are free while I'll try to advance in my studying," Panth sighed before adding, "Bye."

"Bye," she replied to him before hanging up.

"Me. Boring?" Crimson asked.

"The way you talk makes me thing others might see you that way," she honestly replied.

The dragon grumbled before pointing toward the phone, "Is there someone in that thing?"

"That's a phone. It's used to communicate with everyone around the world if I want," she calmly replied.

Crimson remained quiet before finally replied, "Weird," his stomach grunted. The dragon flinched.

Melissa giggled, "I'll prepare a meal for you. It's around noon after all."

She left him alone and came back with a meal. She put a plate near the dragon.

The dragon suspiciously analysed the meal. After looking at the meat and vegetable it, he suspiciously sniffed the vegetable. He took the meat and ate it in one bite, but didn't touch the vegetable.

"What is it?" Melissa asked.

"I do not eat green stuff," the dragon replied.

"Those are broccoli and it's good for you," she replied.

"Smelt bad," Crimson countered as he pushed the plate and turned his head away.

The woman giggled, "Pure carnivorous right?"

Without turning around he replied, "No. I just do not like the stench."

Melissa picked the rest and ate it, "You are right about not being the best. They are coming from the southern land. Those I'll harvest will be fresh and delicious."

The dragon rolled his eyes.

"Hum," she grumbled as she checked his bandages, "You need fresh bandages. You can't have it with dry blood all over you."

"Okay," Crimson simply replied.

Melissa didn't take long to take new bandages in the bathroom and coming back in the living room. She changed the old dirty bandages for new one. As she took them off, she saw the clot having the form of claws on his crimson scales.

Once she finished changing it, she smiled, "All better."

"I agree," the dragon concluded after checking his new bandages, "Thanks again."

"You're welcome," Melissa smiled.

The dragon wanted to stand up, but remembering what happened earlier, he rested on the ground.

Melissa opened her mouth. Nothing came out of it, but eventually asked, "Are you tired?"

"No," Crimson replied as he looked at the ceiling.

"Can I ask you something?" she proposed.

"Sure."

"Do you need my help with your memory?" Melissa suggested.

The dragon frowned his eyes before turning his head the opposite side from where Melissa was standing, "Maybe you- No."

"I might help you with a spell if I can find out-"

"No thanks. It is not a good idea," the dragon insisted.

Melissa gave up, "Okay. There is one more thing though."

He sighed, "Ask it."

"When I found you in your blood poll Crimson... You said something to me before you lost consciousness," she started before sitting on the couch.

The dragon turned toward her surprised, "I said something?"

She nodded, "You said. Beware as if there was something dangerous coming."

Crimson put his claw on his chin and thought about it. He didn't remember saying anything like that, "Must be something I also forgot."

"I guess I won't have my answer," the woman sighed.

"Anything else?" he asked.

She nodded negatively, "No. I'll just have to wait. It will take a while for your memory to come back," after a few seconds, she whispered, "If it comes back," she clapped her hands and smiled, "Okay. I got to go. I have to go at the village and get some supplies. I ran out of some stuff for you."

He turned toward her, "I'll rest."

"As long as you don't try to stand up until you are feeling better," Melissa said before leaving him alone.

The dragon waited a moment when he heard something weird. The sound was loud before he didn't hear it anymore.

"Got a few minutes," the dragon concluded. He sat on the ground and put his right hand on his forehead when he felt lightly dizzy. He slowly breathed until his dizziness dissipated. He slowly tried to stand up. He used his strengths to stand up and after a minute, he sighed, "Need support," he looked around and saw the couch, "This will do."

He grumbled as he lay on his stomach and slowly crawled toward the couch. As he reached it, he grabbed the couch and used the support to stand up on his feet. Slowly and surely, he stood on his knee. He grunted loudly as he used everything to stand on his feet. When he was up, he suddenly felt weaker and his vision blurred. He lost his balance and felt on the ground.

"Dammit," the dragon grumbled. He waited a few minutes. Without being away, just trying to stand up took much longer than the dragon estimated. He only realised it when he tried again. When he was halfway, he heard the door opening.

Melissa came in with groceries. She stopped when she saw Crimson on his knee and trying to stand up.

The two gazed at each other's. The dragon showed no emotions while Melissa lightly frowned while a smile appeared on her face.

"Didn't I tell you not to stand up? Just by looking at you, it's clear you are too weak," she gently said with a hint of authority in her voice.

Crimson grumbled and turned his gaze away from her.

"You should rest," she walked closer.

The dragon grunted, "I am not tired."

"You have to wait until your body healed up. You have been gravely wounded," Melissa gently ordered him.

The dragon clenched his fangs, "I know I am wounded Melissa."

Melissa raised her hand and the dragon suddenly flew in the air.

"Hey! What's happening?" Crimson tried to move, but couldn't.

"I'm sorry, but it's for your own good," she apologised. She added, "As for why you are flying, I used my levitation spell."

Crimson calmed down, but was still frowning at her. She put him where he was resting and sheet covered him again.

"Stay here until you won't feel dizzy just standing up," she said before walking outside the living room.

The dragon pushed the sheet away and sat on the ground. He put his hand over his forehead as he felt dizziness again. He lay back on the ground.

A little later, Melissa came back and sat near him. The dragon turned his back at her.

"Crimson. What's the matter?" Melissa asked.

The dragon took a glance at the woman, "I hate it when I am taken care off. I did not tell you because I also know you have only good intention."

Melissa used her magic to put the sheet back on him, "Crimson. Do not worry. I'll make sure you heal as fast as possible. Once your body made enough blood, you'll be able to do anything you want."

The dragon closed his eyes and grumbled. Eventually, he turned toward her, "Fine. Do not try to slow it."

"That is so not me Crimson. I've brought some pills to increase your blood regeneration," she said as she took some out of the bag.

"Give it," Crimson raised his claw.

She put the bags on the ground and took one pill, "Here."

She put the pill in the dragon palm. The dragon opened his eyes and smelt it. It smelt bad, but he knew he had to eat it.

"Swallow it," she said, but the dragon rolled his eyes and bit it, "Because it tastes really bad."

Crimson swallow the pieces and the powder, but his cheeks inflated before his scales lightly turned green for a few seconds. He calmed down, "That taste so bad!"

Melissa chuckled.

"Do not laugh Melissa!" he shamefully yelled.

She calmed down, "That's why you have to swallow it."

The dragon grumbled and cursed himself as the after taste remained stuck on his tongue.

"I'll prepare something to eat and make you forget the taste," Melissa brought the bag to the kitchen.

The dragon looked at the ceiling and smelt the meal Melissa was prepared. It smelt good and awoke his hunger. There was one thing bothering him, Why did I say beware? He wondered.
