Mary smiled, watching as Kate splashed around in her parent's pool. At the moment, Mary was sitting in a lawn chair watching her friend have the time of her life in the pool. All of a sudden, Kate stopped what she was doing and turned full round to face Mary. "Why aren't you getting in the pool?" Kate asked, her head cocked to one side.
"I don't want to."
"Why not?"
"I just got my nails manicured."
"So?"
"So, I don't want to get my nails messed up." Mary replied, looking at her newly painted nails which were silver with red sparkles.
"What'd you get them done for, anyway? Special event?" Kate inquired curiously. "Yeah, going to my mom's wedding." Mary's whole face lit up. "Really?! It's about time she got married! She's been the girlfriend of him for a year!" She said.
"And what do you know about that?" Mary's mother, Tanya, said as she walked over to where Kate was sitting to put sunscreen on. "Sorry, Tanya. Didn't mean to offend you." Mary said sheepishly.
"No harm done." Tanya simply said as she finished putting sunscreen on and went to the shade for it to dry. "Look what you did, Mary!" Kate said after her mom left.
"What'd I do?" Mary asked.
"You splashed me."
"No I didn't."
"Yes you did."
"Did not."
"Did too."
"You didn't."
"Yes I did!" Kate said before realizing Mary had tricked her. She simply pouted while Mary laughed. "You're so gullible." Mary said. Kate looked around, ignoring her before shouting, "There's a snake in here!"
"What?!" Kate said, jumping into the water without a second thought and swimming over to Kate. "Where's the snake?" Mary asked. Kate just giggled. Mary was confused until she realized that her friend had just tricked her into going into the water. "That was mean!" Mary said, splashing her.
"You deserved it." Kate said between her fit of giggles. Mary glared at her before going to the ladder, getting out of the pool, and trudging over to her house with a towel to dry off.
