East River
New York, New York
A man is standing on the banks of the East River, shivering from the cold. He has dark brown hair, green eyes an oval shaped scar just above his right eye and is dressed in a plain white t-shirt and wearing a pair of dirtied black slacks. His feet are bare and the only thing to identify him is a single plastic hospital-like bracelet on his left wrist with the numbers: 934021RBE. There's no name in which to identify him with. Stumbling upon the largely wet banks of the river, the man lands in a heap mere inches from the pavement in front of him, too exhausted to budge one more millimeter. He saw the blurry outline of a man walking towards him, before he could answer, he blacked out.
The man known only as 934921RBE woke several hours later to the beeping of a heart monitor. Opening his green eyes, he found himself in a darkened hospital room. He didn't have a clue how he'd gotten here. Turning his head slightly when he felt a hand on his, he noticed a pretty blonde sitting in a chair next to the bed. Her smile lit up the room.
"Glad to see your awake Mike. It's so good to see you."
It took a moment for the man in the bed to process what was going on in front of him. Then, finding his voice, he opened his mouth.
"Karen?"
The blonde woman with sparkling crystal blue eyes stared back at him momentarily and they were starting to glisten with tears.
"Yes, its me Mike. What happened to you?"
Mike shook his head and looked very confused.
"I don't know. It's very fuzzy. I wish I knew."
Karen pulled her hand away from Mike's and looked out the window.
"There's something we need to talk about when your feeling better. It concerns the both of us."
Mike heard the quaver in his wife's voice. Something was a bit off. But then everything about today was off.
