With a Smile

Everyday is practically the same..

"Hello!"

"How are you doing today?"

"What can I get for you?"

"Anything else?"

People, new and old,

Slither through my door

With the goal of filling their depths.

We are told, "the customer is always right."

I can't help but disagree.

...

They go out of their way

To ask for a product not carried.

They go out of their way

To make my role difficult.

They go out of their way

To make me a bad person.

They go out of their way

To make me feel stupid.

Every word out of those poisonous, wet caverns

Make me feel increasingly hot.

But they will never know

Because I will always be wearing a smile.

All sarcastic and witty comebacks and comments within me

Will never pass these smiling lips.

...

But there are the few

That glide through my door

I look forward to seeing.

They go out of their way

To make me feel a friend.

They go out of their way

To make me feel like a human;

A human with ability,

A human with worth,

A human that deserves respect.

...

I thank you all

For your service.

You will always be welcomed

With a smile.
