from the age of eight a little
girl had been growing strawberries
her whole life, her craft
prepare. start a compost months
before the planting, dig holes (not
too deep or wide); drain—maybe
raised beds will be good.
care. 'don't forget the sunlight,' six-ten
hours' worth a day; one inch of water
per week. mulch after the first frosts
arrive; and weed, weed by hand.
while here i am, waiting for
creativity to come knocking; this
is how it feels to be unoriginal.
my only consolation when i
compare myself with her:
she don't make the seeds herself—
she only plants them.
