Echo went outside, hearing Wonder barking. He looked at the ocean and saw Stephanie go under the water. He realized that she was going to drown if he didn't do something. He ran to the water and jumped in, swimming over to where he last saw Stephanie.

He looked around before diving under the water. The water stung his eyes, but he kept them open and saw Stephanie below him. The ocean was an angry mob. It pushed him away from her with waves that roared like thunder.

He managed to grab her and struggled to swim with the added weight. This won't do, he thought, somewhat panicking. He lifted her head above water, and faintly heard her coughing and sputtering above him.

Stephanie saw a blinding light, and when her eyes adjusted she saw a helicopter flying above her, and watched it land on the shore. Two men ran out of the helicopter and swam over to her, and suddenly she went underwater again when what was supporting her above the water suddenly let go. One of the men helped her back to shore.

"W-Where's Echo?" Stephanie asked, coughing.

"There was someone else?" one of the men questioned.

"He swam over to me," Stephanie replied.

"He must still be in the water," the other man said, and swam back to where they had found Stephanie. The man dove under the water and came back up with Echo. The man helped Stephanie into the helicopter and she watched the two men whisper to each other, but she couldn't hear what they were saying.

"This kid… he's dead," the man holding Echo said.

"Isn't he the other person who was reported missing, the one who fell off that ship?" the other man asked.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure he is. I think his name was… Echo Rovan. But I heard that he was adopted, and his original name was Echo Roberts," the other man replied, and put the body in the helicopter. The two men got Stephanie's and Echo's belongings after Stephanie informed them were their stuff was, then the rescue team got in the helicopter to go back to civilization.

Meanwhile, Sarah sat on the couch at her apartment. I hope Echo is okay, then he can meet his sister, she thought. Her phone rang. "Hello?" she asked hopefully.

"Hi. We have some… news about your son. You might not want to be standing up when you hear this," John replied.

"O-Okay," Sarah said nervously.

"They found him and a girl named Stephanie Roberts on one of the islands..." John started to say.

"Did you say Stephanie Roberts?" Sarah interrupted.

"Yes, do you know her?"

"That's my son's sister! They were supposed to meet for the first time when we got here," she replied.

"Oh… well I'm sorry to tell you this, but your son drown when he was trying to save his sister," John said.

"What?" Sarah yelled, "But… that can't be! Echo was excellent at swimming, how would he have drown?"

"Apparently, he dove into the water to save her and held her above the water so she could breathe, but he could only just barely support her and couldn't go up to the surface to breathe himself," John replied.

"D-Does Stephanie know about this?" Sarah inquired.

"She just found out. She found out after she was hospitalized, and she isn't taking it too well. They've already told her that he was her brother too. Her mom has said that she hasn't been going to school after the incident, and that she hasn't been very talkative lately. Her mom also told the police and reporters that she 'prefers not to talk about what happened,'" he said.

"Would it be possible for me to visit her?"

"Of course, I'll give you her mom's number."

"That won't be necessary. I already have her number."

"Oh, okay. Good luck," John replied, and hung up.

A day later, Sarah walked to Stephanie's parents' house. Stephanie's mother greeted her at the door. "Come in, Stephanie is in the living room," she said.

"Thanks Chelsea," Sarah replied.

"No problem," Chelsea said, but Sarah could tell that she was suffering as much as she was at the news of Echo's death. Even though Chelsea hadn't even really known her son Echo, it was as though she had been with him all his life. Although he had grown up with Sarah, his death had brought equal sorrow to the both of them.

Chelsea led Sarah to the living room. Stephanie was curled up on the couch with a pile of blankets over her, staring uninterestedly at the television. Sarah sat down beside her. "Hi," Sarah said.

"Hi," Stephanie replied.

"How have you been?"

"Terrible."

"I figured," Sarah said with a sigh and watched the news channel for a while. After minutes of silence, Stephanie spoke up.

"He saved me… and he didn't even know me," Stephanie said, tears threatening to fall. Sarah put a hand on her shoulder.

"If he had known he was your sister, he would've saved you anyway. Besides, the island you were on was dangerous. It was inevitable that something would have happened to one of you before you were rescued," Sarah replied.

"Yeah. Oh, b-by the way, the rescue team gave me this," Stephanie said, and pulled out a different locket than before from her pocket. Sarah giggled.

"Look at the picture in it," she explained. Stephanie opened up the locket and gasped.

"Is that him? He looks so cute!" Stephanie exclaimed, looking at the picture of Echo and Sarah at a restaurant.

"Yeah, he was three when that picture was taken," Sarah replied and laughed, "It was a nightmare trying to get him to stay still."

"I bet," Stephanie said with a smile.

At that moment, Chelsea came into the room. "The funeral is today, do you still want to go?" she asked, looking at Stephanie. Stephanie nodded.

"I can drive us there," Sarah offered.

"That would be great," Chelsea replied.

Weeks later, Stephanie walked from school to Echo's grave. She set a bouquet of pink roses on his grave and smiled. "Thank you for everything, thank you both," she said, and looked at the grave next to Echo's. The grave was her father's. She had never met her father, but the way Echo had seemed to admire him was all but enough.

My father must have been a very good person, that must have been where Echo got that from, Stephanie thought with a smile, and put a blue rose on her father's grave.
