She stood out in the middle of the feild, the storm blowing around her. Rain lashed at her, stinging her skin and soaking her clothes thoroughly. The wind whipped at her hair, hitting her in the face and making tears come to her eyes.
She lifted her arms to her side in surrender. "You came here to kill me, didn't you?" she screamed at the storm.
The wind picked up in answer, swirling around her in a mini tornado.
"Then do it!"
It picked up until she could feel her feet lifting from the ground. Her heart raced, almost seeming to want to escape from her chest.
Then everything stopped. The rain continued, but now it wasn't pelting her from every angle. Her feet hit the ground again. Her hair plastered itself to her head and shoulders, and she stared up at something only she could see.
"Well?"
A man appeared before her. His body from the waist down seemed to be made of smoke, and the upper half was bare but for the war paint on his redish-tan skin.
"I can't," he admitted.
She stepped closer to him. "And why not? Didn't you say you were going to kill me, oh great Master of the wind?"
His grey eyes lightened, the storm around them calming.
"I said I was going to make you kill yourself," he corrected her softly.
"Here I am, letting you kill me."
"I can't."
"Why not!?"
"I love you."
She held her hand out to him. He looked at it, his eyes darkening and lightning splitting through the sky above them.
"Then touch me, Otaktay."
He tentatively reached for her hand, hesitating right before he took her hand in his. Instantly, his wraith-like form solidified into flesh and bone, and he stood before her, his long ponytail quickly drenching in the summer rain. The war paint started to leak off his skin, mixing with water as it slid down his torso and soaked into his deerskin leggings.
His now brown eyes seemed uncertain, cautious, maybe even afraid. She jumped into his arms, enveloping him in a hug that it took him a few seconds to return.
"I'm sorry, Otaktay."
The knife plunged into his back and severed his spine. She let his weight drop to the ground and stood over his disbelieving form. She knelt and let the tip of the knife rest right over his heart.
"Why?"
Tears mixed with the rain flowing down her face. "She said she'd kill Thomas if I didn't."
He huffed out a laugh and looked to the sky. "Then do it, silly girl. I would have saved him for you, but instead you chose this path. You've damned us both."
"I know," she whispered as the plunged the knife into his heart.
This one is more akin to a scene I want to base a story around than the actual beginning of a book. :) Kind of twisted romance/kidnapper story but not really. Rated T.
