A/N: I know I ought to be working on my more important stories like Bad Luck Charm and I Just Wanna Be Yours, but I couldn't put this thing off any longer. Named after the Beatles song.

Some warnings: this is a slash fic (M/M, yaoi, whatever else you want to call it; I don't really care.), so if this isn't your thing, then kindly turn around and leave. I myself am a straight male, but I see no problem in me writing this kind of stuff.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Summary: Ken couldn't stand it. He wanted to tell Jason how he felt, that he saw him more than just as his best friend. Too bad it is never that easy…

Ken sat down on the bench in his high school's courtyard, pulling his acoustic guitar out of its case and gently strumming the strings. He was on lunch break, and nothing felt quite the same as being able to sit outside and play whatever melody came to mind. Something about feeling his fingers dance over the strings, tugging at people's hearts as his music rode the wind made him feel happy in his own little world. 'Fresh air. It's so peaceful.'

His light brown hair fell into his eyes, and he pushed up his glasses before giving his guitar a few test strums, listening for any indication of his prized instrument needing a possible tune-up. The strings returned happy and healthy, and the brunette boy smiled; nothing needed fixing.

He shook his arms, plucked the guitar pick from the breast pocket of his flannel shirt, closed his eyes, and started to play.

The melody was slow and sad, and it wasn't long before he found himself surrounded by an audience. His talent was known throughout the school, and he had even gotten a few offers from a local recording studio. Ken had politely declined the offer each time it was presented; he wasn't doing it to make money. He did it because he loved it.

He gently bobbed his head, tapping his foot in rhythm, and he heard a familiar male voice amongst the crowd. "Nice tune, Ken."

Ken looked up, and he swallowed a lump in his throat as a person he felt strongly towards pushed his way through the crowd. "H-hey Jason…" 'Dammit. Why did it have to be you? Of all the people for me to be attracted to, it had to be someone who's been one of my best friends since middle school.'

The dirty blonde teen was wearing a tight blue shirt that stretched over his toned chest, and his dark green eyes glittered in mischief as he made his way over to him. "Why the stutter? Afraid a girl will get the wrong idea or something?"

Even though his words were teasing, Ken still blushed and looked away guiltily. It was no secret amongst his friends that the brunette was a homosexual, having come out two years ago. But he still tried to suppress how he felt about Jason; the taller teen didn't know how Ken felt towards him.

And it hurt.

Ken couldn't stand it. He wanted to tell Jason how he felt, that he saw him more than just as his best friend who stood by him when things were at their worst. Too bad it's never that easy, like in the horribly written romance books that many of his classmates had their noses buried in.

Ken looked away, placing his guitar back in its case and brushing past. "I'll talk to you later…" 'Why? Why is it him? Of all the goddamn people to make me feel this way, it's him! I don't even think he's into me like that! He's had girlfriends, you damn weirdo!'

He heard Jason call after him, but he paid no attention to it; he couldn't face him. Not now. His eyes threatened to burst with both frustration and hopelessness, and he sped into the bathroom. "Goddammit, why? Why the fuck does it have to be him?"

He slumped against the wall, his back sliding down the smooth tiles until he reached the floor. His head sank into his hands, and he shook, trying to hold back his tears. 'He doesn't like you like that. Get that thought out of your thick skull, you disgusting piece of trash.'

"Hey." Jason's voice startled him, and Ken looked up to see his friend was looking down at him with concern in his dark eyes. "Are you okay? You had me worried when you ran out like that."

"I'm fine," Ken lied, wiping his face. "You don't need to worry about me." 'Don't lie to yourself. You know damn well you're not okay. You didn't even hear him come in.'

Jason sat down next to him, sighing. "Ken, we've been friends for as long as I care to remember. We have always had each other's backs. I know something's bothering you, more than you'd like to admit. And trust me when I say there is nothing that you could say or do that would change our friendship."

Ken shook his head, feeling frustrated again despite Jason's comforting words. "You wouldn't understand…"

"Try me." The taller boy folded his muscular arms, his expression never-changing. "Hell, if anyone would understand, it's me. And you know it."

The words had a core of truth in them. Jason was the first one who found out the brunette was gay, and accepted him for the person he was. His sexuality didn't have an impact on their friendship, like Ken feared it would.

Ken took a deep breath, and he looked at his friend straight in the eye. "Jason, I…I like you."

Jason's eyes widened, and he shook his head with a small smile on his face, his green gaze soft. "You big dummy. Come here, you." He embraced Ken, one of his calloused hands ruffling his silky hair. "How long were you going to wait? I've seen the way you look at me."

"You knew?"

"Of course I did," Jason scoffed. "I'd be a shitty friend if I didn't notice you of all people was attracted to this handsome piece of ass. Honestly, I've been thinking about you a lot too. More than as a friend. I just wasn't sure if it was me being an idiot or genuine."

Ken placed his head in his lap, letting Jason play with his hair. "What if someone thinks badly of us?"

"You know my motto. 'Fuck them all; they can eat my dick'," Jason laughed, leaning down and kissing his head. "Screw what anyone else thinks. We got each other, right?"

"Right."

For the first time in awhile, Ken finally felt at ease.
