"Zira, I'm going on this date whether you like it or not."

Zira makes a low, growling noise that reverberates in my head. They aren't happy.

They've always been somewhat protective, but it's never gotten this bad. The most that they would do before would be to warn me if someone's aura gave off bad vibes to them.

"What, you want to be my romantic partner?"

Silence.

"You didn't give me any indication that Rian was a bad person when I became friends with him. The only recourse, therefore, is that you're jealous."

No noise. No telepathic pulses.

Then my schoolbag is pushed off my bed, books and papers spilling everywhere.

"Throwing a temper tantrum won't change my mind. Listen, I have my phone, 911 is on speed dial. I'll be okay."

A huffing noise echoes in my head.

"And you had better not be planning on messing anything up with your telepathy."

A chair moves as if it is kicked over.

"Ziracah! What did I just say?"

A sudden headache pulses through my skull. "Ow, Zira, stop that!"

The sound of knocking on my door shuts me up. "Cara, is everything alright in there? We can hear you shouting from downstairs." It's my mom.

"Yeah, I'm okay mom, sorry about the yelling. I just hit my leg on the bedframe and it hurt a lot."

I'm praying that she doesn't come in and see the mess Zira just made. She'll think I'm crazy if I tell her that I have an angel that has been following me since I was 6, who is currently throwing a temper tantrum because of the date I'm going on.

"Okay, well Rian will likely be here soon, so be ready in the next few minutes."

I hear her footsteps receding down the stairs and breathe a sigh of relief. I start gathering my things.

"You can stay here if you want, Zira. I'm not forcing you to do anything."

No response. I guess they're giving me the silent treatment.

They end up going with me anyway.
