One by one

A prologue to our loss

They bore baby dragons by tearing apart their flesh

Nurturing them to new heights

They shielded them from anger and hatred

From acts that would have caused them to fall into despair,

Until their little ones matured enough to create their own kin

There were once four all together

One by one they fell down the rabbit hole

Shrouding themselves in an invisible black cloak

Leaving behind the generations they created in darkness

Lost souls looking for hope

Their own woes of sadness echoing in their mind

Three of four fell first

The timing unknown to their grandkin

The last has now fallen

The timing known by their grandkin

To be remembered,

Each has earned their own

And this grandkin will speak through the soul she once thought she had lost
