Division 47Toads

Anthony groaned he had been practising with Tangle for days. Both she and his brother were convinced he could master and learn to control his powers. Tony was not so sure. "I can't do it Tangle I just can't!"

"Yes you can Tony," Tangle tried very hard to be patient. You just have to practice. Now concentrate!"

"But the spell is stupid it doesn't work," he whined. His tutor gritted her teeth then a second voice from the doorway entered the conversation.

"Quit whining Anthony and get on with it," Oliver ordered.

Tony was glad he had his back to his brother otherwise the look he sent out could well have had a very unfortunate outcome. Tony inhaled then closed his eyes and began to mentally chant.

"Damn!" He swore loudly as he heard the sounding shattering pottery and opened his eyes. The cup now lay in several pieces on the wooden laminate floor. He scowled round at Tangle.

"See! I told you I can't do it!"

"Yes you can!" She was completely poker faced but there was a glint in her eye he didn't like. "Start again and this time keep your eyes open. Watch what you're doing!"

Tony inhaled and shot her a glare so baleful it would have withered the features of any lesser person. There was also the fact that Tony knew 'Olive Oyl' (his secret name for his brother) was standing right behind him. He took another long deep breath and tried again.

He managed to actually move the cup over two feet but this time when it fell, it fell within a foot of Tangle's large cat. It leapt up hissing at him its tail twitching angrily clearly it objected to having its nap disturbed.

"Do mind Jessie!" Tangle said mildly. Tony sensed she was inwardly laughing at him but when he glanced at her. She was as impassive as before. She simply laid another cup on the table.

"Again! You're close to getting the hang of this now." Tony mentally felt she was kidding herself and him but as his brother was present refrained from contradicting her. He focused his attention on the cup.

It was half way between the two desks when he faltered his confidence wavered and the cup went down. Tony groaned at what a dismal failure he was turning out to be.

"We're running out of cups," Tangle observed. This made Tony groan double when they ran out of cups the session would end. But he would have to go down to the kitchen for another batch and the cook down there was beginning to regard him with suspicion that he was doing something frivolous with her crockery. Tony inwardly scowled again "It was not as if she paid for them he did!" Oliver's stern voice interrupted his musing.

"Stop Dallying Anthony You can do this and you will!"

Tony tried hard to contain his rising anger. He once more set to and repeated the spell.

And...

The last cup shattered loudly Tony no longer able to contain his frustration grabbed a large shard and hurled it at the wall. At the same time he changed the final line of the spell to what he wished would happen to the stupid cup. "Turn this into a bloody toad!"

Oliver shook his head as Tangle now loudly groaned.

"Oh no Tony!" She and Oliver moved to grab the now hopping shards of pottery. Tony made no attempt to help them. He stood with a very satisfied grin on his face.

"Well! I made them move!" he said. Oliver looked as if he was about to hit him so Tony decided now was the time to end the session. He skipped lightly from the practice room chuckling happily
