Have you ever stopped yourself for one minute to simply breathe only because you can?

Let's be clear, I'm not talking about inhaling oxygen so as to stop yourself from fainting and probably dying; I mean actually breathing, and not only air, but everything that surrounds you…
maybe love in the shape of recently baked cookies as the ones only mom knows how to cook…
maybe yearning in the shape of the soft spring breeze that carries back the promises screamed at the four winds years ago…
maybe desire in the shape of deep nights and the childish expectation to find Orion's belt in the middle of the shining sky…

This being clear deep breaths that carry in all the truth you can possibly imagine. Breaths like the ones from those moments you knew something was the most real thing that ever got to exist…
like the spark in a special someone's eyes…
like the laughter you share with your brother in the most random moments…
like the water gathering in your eyes when you see a defenseless, lonely, lost little animal in the streets…

Moments you keep deep inside even if you don't do it consciously, all coming back whenever you stop yourself to breathe them in…
the good memories that you treasure and hold on to with your life…
the bad memories that you wish you can forget but you know you need pain to keep moving forward…
the real memories that got craved deep inside you as a permanent part of the person you are…
the memories created by your imagination that never happened in the eyes of others but stood written in ink in the back of your mind as a reminder of who you are to yourself…

Maybe now breathing sounds too creepy or too dangerous, facing all the things it would mean is one of the last things you might feel like doing, but if you don't, I'm afraid you'll get lost…
lost in the fatality of misplaced colors in a painting you made yourself…
lost in the fake smiles you give away to those who don't deserve them…
lost in the water you dive in to forget what breathing is like for as much seconds you can resist… kind of like the games you played with your friends in the pool when you were still a child and weren't precisely conscious of what it could mean

So try breathing in, try taking in all of that, every step will mean something…
it's one memory back for each breath you dare to take…
it's one rock less you carry in your shoulders each time you exhale…
it's one step closer to freedom for each time you allow yourself to break…
Because you have to learn all that is necessary, not only passably ok

I'm telling you it is closer than you might imagine, maybe only one more breath away, and even if it isn't, the first step will be already taken, and you'll be already one step closer… closer to what? Only you know that, and if you don't, you'll find out soon enough and something wonderful will be waiting for you…
It'll wait for you at the end of the line you've been following since you started to run…
It'll also wait for you back home if you decide it's ok to return…

Adventures… loneliness… romance… challenges… fantasy… tragedy… and whatever you can imagine will lurk in your path, but isn't it exciting?

A safe life is boring, a plain life is scary…

What do you have to lose other than fear? And if you can think of anything else then ask yourself… do you really have it? Is it really yours to have?

All that's left for me to say is… life is too damn short for second thoughts…
And you are way too strong to be losing your time by wondering about those.
