The Coordinator nodded at the result of the search of the three dragons. Darkus stood on the side and sighed. He took more time and couldn't join them in their investigations.

"To resume everything father, the humans who disappeared had a shitty life and they are probably dead now," Reflect explained.

The purple dragon nodded as he pat the head of his son, "Nice work! She would be so proud of you. Keep it up!"

The magenta dragon and red dragon snickered.

Rose asked, "And what are you doing to do next? Because it's getting late."

Brutus stopped and replied, "We are planning to check around tomorrow. We are going to retrace everything the boy did before disappearing."

"It won't be easy. We don't have his stench to begin with," Hellfire commented.

"Don't worry. I can figure out by tomorrow who are the missing students. They are obviously put somewhere in the schools. They were absent for a while. And you can help me! It's been a while since we spent some time together," the older dragon trapped his son in a hug and rubbed his snout on the younger purple dragon once again.

The human smirked when the red dragon snickered once again at the purple dragon, "Maybe we can stay and dine with you two?" she innocently suggested.

The two dragons who lived with her paled at the suggestion.

Darkus came to their rescue before the Coordinator could say anything, "I think it might not be a good idea for me. Too much plants makes me really gassy. And I ain't joking about it."

"And I thought we would make something together," Brutus tapped with his claws together as he approached her. He let his snout on her shoulder and whispered in her ears like a snake, "I'll never accept a pure vegan diner."

"Hellfire won't mind then," Rose clapped her hands together, "We'll wait you at home later."

The magenta dragon decided it was for the best to go on with her teasing. He grabbed her and they were about to leave.

"See you tomorrow!" the girl said to the Coordinator.

"Later!" the purple dragon turned towards the red one, "Go with them. It's a diner between my son and me," he made sure his progeniture didn't escape from his grasp.

Hellfire nodded and quickly escaped with Darkus following suit.

Chapter 16: Following The Steps

The following day, the four dragons reached the school where the students went missing. They watched it from the roof.

"Okay, what did your father tell you?" Brutus asked, before noticing that the purple dragon scales were a little paler than usual.

"Sorry… too much plants," Reflect commented, "I'll be better in a few minutes. I just finished eating. Vegans is the invention of the devil."

The three dragons nodded, "Agreed."

"Never mind my stomach. My father told me a few important things about the boy who went missing. He was a student with a hard life with his mother who seems to be a total bitch, or so he said. From what father gathered, the neighbours tried to do something twice, but the cops did nothing because of something. That's not important. Anyway, he is living not too far from the school. Around a few minutes of walk. Follow me."

The three dragons spread their wings while the outsider followed them by foot. In less than five minutes, they stood on the roof of the neighbour of the victim.

"This is where he was living before, he disappeared, probably dead. From what I know, he was coming back home with his friend before he disappeared. The question is, did he reach it or not," Reflect asked.

Darkus commented, "I see why it might be a problem. If it was on his way, it might be anywhere since he split with his friend. If not, the demon might attack him when he was in his house."

"How do we check in his house? I see a car. His mother might be inside," Hellfire suggested.

"I don't see another one. They either have one car or someone isn't here," Brutus noticed.

"The father isn't supposed to be terrible like the mother. Do they know he disappeared or not?" the purple dragon wondered, "Anyway, we better check if there is anyone around. They could have left in one car together."

They quietly observed their target. The dragons gazed at each other's.

"How to we proceed?" Darkus asked as that question never had been answered.

The dragons thought about it without replying to the black dragon.

Reflect suggested, "We should try to act like we are investigating the disappearance of his son. We will know if they are here, if they knew or care he was gone and find a way to get a scent of that human."

"Who's going?" the magenta dragon gazed at the group.

"I'll go. I've played detective once and I can do it again," Hellfire let out a small smirk.

"I'll come with you," Reflect said as he stood by the side of the red dragon, "Being more than one might get a better reaction from the humans… if they are in there. If no one answers, you two will enter discreetly. Because we don't want anyone to witness us trying to get in the house illegally."

"Got it," the dragons replied.

The two dragons jumped from the roof and landed in a spot outside of the view of any residents who might be in a house. They came out as adult humans, wearing a brown coat and looking like detective in their thirties or forties. They approached the house.

"How do we begin this?" Hellfire asked.

"We begin by the presentation. Follow my lead," Reflect said.

"By the way, I am detective Hector," the dragon in disguise said.

"Got it. I'm Richard," the other one replied.

They stood at the entrance of the house. The one who played as Richard knocked the door and waited for anyone to answer. After a few seconds, he knocked once again.

"I smell that someone is in there. I know that whoever entered, is either the mom or the dad," the dragon disguised as Hector whispered.

The other one gazed at the window left open, "Yeah," he rang the bell twice and said, "This is detective Richard! Open the door now. We know you are here."

Hellfire was getting pissed at that type of human. He checked by the window and saw a human peeping at them before hiding, "I saw you. We are here about your son who disappeared," he coughed and went to the offensive, "We got witness who said that you have something to do with it."

Reflect went on, "Guess we will have to interrogate your husband instead," he turned around and acted like he was grabbing a phone.

The other dragon in disguise also turned around.

The door opened and a Caucasian woman with short black hair came to greet them, "Sorry it took so long. I was busy on the other floor."

An obvious lie. The dragons didn't let her know they caught it before she made that lie.

"Thank you, Miss Devinsky," the dragon called Richard said, "We have a few questions about your son."

"You can come in," she replied.

"Thank you," the red dragon in disguise said, hiding his distain from the woman. He could smell evil coming out of her.

"You said that you have questions about my son. What's going on?" Miss Devinsky asked curiously. Her tone let out that she knew more than what she let on.

"There is someone at his school that contacted us. He told us that your son Jimmy didn't went to school for a few days. He is worried for his safety. We went to ask you if you know what might happen," Reflect asked.

The Caucasian woman scratched her cheek, "I don't know who told you this, but my son goes to school everyday. I would have noticed it if he disappeared."

"On the day he disappeared, he went back home and since then, no news out of him. The school informed us that his absence is unusual. He often missed one day of school max per week, but he has been absent for a few days," Hellfire resumed from everything the Coordinator managed to gather.

The human avoided looking at them, "Maybe he ended up in a bad crowd. Recently, he had been more distant than usual."

The two gazed at each other's. Both wondered if they should push it or more to the next question. They knew it was a lie.

"What can you tell us about the bad crowd? Are they people from his school or not?" Reflect decided to push it a little more.

"I don't really know. He didn't say anything about me. He used to be more talkative until then," she replied while looking back at them with a sad expression.

They noticed a lapsus when the woman said 'about me' instead of 'to me'.

"Maybe we should check on his friends at school Richard. Maybe they know more about that bad crowd."

"Agree. Anyway, we want to know more about your son Miss Devinsky. Maybe there is something irregular in his activities since he met with those people. It might help us find him."

"Sure…" she avoided looking at them once again. She thought for a while.

The dragons didn't bother listening to her explanation. It was obvious she knew little about her son to nothing. Everything she said was made up. They simply nodded and acted as if they were listening to her. She finished what her son did and what changed recently.

Hellfire was the one who spoke next, "Did he brought anything unusual? He might hide it in his chamber. There might be a clue about his disappearance," he scratched his left cheek.

"Nono. I don't think so," Miss Devinsky quickly replied as she stood up, "I think you should leave now. I have other things to do."

The dragons knew they had to check the chamber later.

Reflect nodded, "We should leave Hector. We will be back with a warrant another time."

The two stood up and left the house. The door clapped behind them as they left.

"What a shitty mother," Hellfire declared.

"Agreed," the other one replied as they walked outside of the view of any civilians, "We'll enter in the house once she's gone."

"Yeah, we got the dragon authorisation," he chuckled.

Once they were out of view, they reverted into their dragon form and flew back on the roof, joining the other two dragons.

Brutus had his arms crossed and asked, "What did you learn?"

"Not that much. She didn't let us go beyond the entrance. We never went into the living room or anywhere else," Reflect replied.

Darkus asked, "Anything else you learned that might help us?"

"She is a horrible mother that makes demons look kinda nice," they said at the same time.

"I wouldn't be surprise if that bitch was happy that her son was gone. She had the vibe of those weird woman who like to have blue hairs," Hellfire commented.

"You mean those. Rose told me about those she had at school and how much she wished that the demons would get them," the magenta dragon replied. He shook his head, "But back on the subject. Anything else important?"

"She claimed that she didn't notice his disappearance, but it's an obvious lie. I don't think her husband is aware of anything going on in his house. I believe he might search for him if he knew about it. Because of that, the cops might not have been called yet," the purple dragon concluded their result.

The red dragon added, "We couldn't get into the chamber to get a clear scent. Where we were, it was too diluted and mixed with that woman sent."

Reflect gazed at the group and said, "When she leaves the house, we go in there and we find anything that might help us find the demon or where that human disappeared. If he is alive, we should hurry up," he sighed, "But chances are really low."

Darkus grunted, "We should also find out what might trigger that human to disappear. The demon targeted him after he returned home, I believe."

"If what triggered the special demon is in the house," the purple dragon calmly said.

It was now the waiting game. The dragons had to wait for the chance to infiltrate the house.
