Joy's fingers stroked his chest hair. "Were you born in Missouri?" she asked.

"No, Ohio." Gil replied, "I moved to Missouri right before I got the job with the Department of Conservation."

"How long did you live there?"

"A while."

"How long?"

She never let him hedge. It was one of the things he liked about her. "I moved there right before that earthquake in California." he teased.

"That doesn't narrow it down."

He chuckled, "Sorry, I'll get a calendar." He started to get up and her hand pressed him flat.

"Tell me about your werewolf." she said.

"She was a cougar, and her name was Mona." he replied, shortly.

"Sorry." she apologized. Her fingers stroked his chest again. "She died?"

"You know she did."

"Mm-hm... And then what happened?"

"What do you mean?"

"She died, you left. Where did you go?"

"I moved to Milwaukee." he said. His voice sounded flat and distant. He stared over her, out the bedroom window, trying to think how he could change the subject.

Her arm embraced him. "Do you want to talk about it?"
