I woke up and immediately wanted to go back to sleep. My entire body had a dull pain, and I couldn't see out of my left eye. I sat up, and looked around. It was a little before sunrise on Christmas eve, and I was on the top floor of the inn, not in the same room I had been in. There was at least one other person living in the room with me, probably to make sure my injuries healed correctly. In fact, he seemed the have used healing light on me recently, giving how exhausted he was. What the heck? How did I just determine all that? I had never been good at that type of thing!

'but I have always been good at this type of thing.' A voice in my head said.

'who's there? Why are you here?'

'it's me, dumbass, you're new brainmate.'

I quickly shook my head, and looked around, telling Akira to let me figure things out for now. She started using my left eye to write messages, white text appearing in the black the the eye now saw.

Now, I realized someone else really was in the room. Julius. He was sitting on a chair by my bed, in sweatpants and a t-shirt, snoring.

Ignoring the buzzing anger Akira was projecting, I kissed him. He woke with a start, then wrapped his arms around me, and we sat like that for a minute.

Eventually, we broke apart, and he said,

"You're awake! I was worried that you weren't going to wake up."

"I don't ever want to leave you again, " I said, aware that if my deal with Akira worked out, I would probably know him for all eternity.

"So much has happened while you were out!" He said.

There was a knock on the door. Cyf peaked her head in. She looked... Different. And not just what she was wearing, but something about her was different.

"Come in! Your mom is awake." Julius said.

Cyf hurried inside, setting the box of Chinese takeout she held on the table. She was in human form, with a new bob cut and for some reason, sunglasses.

"Mom! " she said, hugging me. It was the greatest feeling in the world, knowing that she trusted me enough to call me mom.

Together, they told me of the past few months. First, the day Akira had appeared, and after my plan had mostly succeeded, Julius returned to the lab to find the hullabaloo. Akira's powers were making her heal very quickly, and she soon realized that she got the wrong Soul. Between Blueberry, Julius, and Cyf, who had arrived a few minutes later, Akira didn't last long. A Couple minutes after that, when Blueberry discovered that my body had sustained all the injuries Akira's had, Cyf was devastated, since it has been her who ultimately finished Akira off, (and in a rather violent way, I gather, but she hasn't spoken about it much.) I was rushed to the hospital, and they didn't think I was going to survive. It was the common assumption that Julius's healing light had saved me, and that was partially true, but deep down, I knew that if it hadn't been for Akira, I would be a goner.

Anyway, in the mean time, Blueberry had become quite her own person, and she combined the names Cyf and I have her, calling herself Beck Blue now. Julius's experience in the other worlds had fascinated the aquatics, who now called him Uncle Julius. It took a while to explain Julius's existence, but now he had a house in town, that I could live in whenever I was well. Dr. Malakai had been contacted, and he knew that I would probably be living in Earth now. (I said that naturally I would.)

And Cyf and Ambrose were engaged, which was the biggest news. It has actually happened earlier on the same day everything went down with Akira, slightly ironically. That's why they had been away initially.

I would say that my story ends with my meeting Beck Blue in her new form. She was still human shaped, but had given herself white fox ears, the nine tales of her old species, and her own face and body type. We talked for a long time, and it was aparrent that she really looked up to me, oddly. Since she was her own person, she wouldn't be returning to sprite form, and as long as me and Cyf didn't die at the same time, she was basically immortal. She's was the first person I told about my deal with Akira, but now several other people know. We're actually thinking she might stick around in the next world also, since I'm still her patron Soul. None of us will remember what's going on, but I believe it will turn out like in Legends of Zelda, where we always find each other again. Oh dear, that last bit was a might confusing, I hope you understood it. If not, feel free. to ask me, and I'll try to give you a more satisfactory explanation.

And to this day, I'm still living in the little town out in rural Montana, occasionally traveling to fix the barrier, but never for long. I don't think I'll ever want to leave here again.
