Scars

Words like daggers cut deep
Blood pours from a patchwork heart
Trust, fathoms deep, broken again.
Emotions freed from bondage, retreat.

Truths once told aloud
Now falsehoods in my mouth
Tears freed from their dam,
Dried on cheeks, stained and gone.

Pain grips its knife, deep,
Twisting, bleeding, shouts rendered
Fall on deaf ears, closed off, unreachable
Death is near, cold and uncaring, waiting.

Scars once thought beautiful,
Part of life, now disfigure everything
Scars earn from love
Are now the signs of sorrow and hate.
