In crash and wave we do but lay,
In salty grave we wait.
'Til day bring forth another round
To tread on fate's false gait.
/
With honey'd words, led I astray,
With look and form and grace,
To water's edge, with crash and might,
And choice made not with haste.
/
He brought us gold, he brought us news,
Of new home and good health.
My father knew, his daughter held
A future for herself.
/
He cast me down, to bitter end
With strength unmatched withal,
His bridal steed, with flowers laid,
Surrendered me to fall.
/
I took his charm, I took his wealth,
For prosp'rous unioning.
My fate secured that day as I
Laid naked in the sea.
/
Drowned, drowned, in sighs and woe,
Accurs'd by clouded sight,
Lay I in wait 'til bitter cold,
Bring round next lady flight.
/
In blinded glee and uncheck'd haste
He fled with me in tow,
He spun me round in wedded gown,
Before he did me throw.
/
My mother's wit I did not take,
On journey far from home,
For I knew not what fate lay wait,
At edge of ocean's foam.
/
In crash and wave we do but lay,
In salty grave we wait.
'Til day bring forth another round
To tread on fate's false gait.
/
Five and two a lady came
Along with bated breath,
Came to the edge of earth's stronghold
To join in ocean's death.
/
We cried and wept, our sorrows full,
No ears to hear our cries,
Mistook him for a knight we did,
His wedding bells sing lies.
/
Beware, beware young brides of new
Surrender not to he.
He'll cast you down in bitter depth,
With cloying hands, kill thee.
/
A new maid comes, on same false steed,
Succumbs to our same right.
"Young lady, fair, hear our cries!
Go safely home tonight!"
/
He bids her take her bridal skirt
Away from her dew skin,
But wait, she tasks him with a turn
To where they've hence since been.
/
With feign of virtue, wisely on,
She bids him, turn away.
Yet not she take her wedding skirt-
She will not obey!
/
What does she now, can not you tell?
She looks upon with sight.
"Young lady, fair, hear our cries!
Go safely home tonight!"
/
To crash and man she looks with mind,
Aware of peril's dawn,
She grabs him up! Throws him down!
In foam he is cast on!
/
The deed now done, she takes his horse,
Her bridal garment tact,
She leaves him here, with us, he fears,
And this our final act.
