He took her to
The Aquarium across the River
Like he's done
Years ago
She was little then
Though, she probably wasn't as talkative
This time, she's 26
1.5 years ago
They went but
She was in the Aquarium alone
(retroactively painful)
This time, she had him there
As she talked on and on about
The creatures there
Perhaps, most noteworthy
Are the moon jellies
Things that fascinated her
Maybe, in coming years,
The jellies would be a staple
For her core memories of the place
A fleeting bit of nostalgia
She'd muse to the jellies
Recalling several things
(or close to "several" with her hazy memory)
She recalled her ramblings about the fish
How she'd never understand why he liked mayonnaise
And how he helped her up
The escalators
(in spite of her dread)
She was about six
When they first went
To the Aquarium
Currently, she's 26
And, roughly, he's in his 50s
Neither so young anymore
Perhaps, existence would be easier
If she were a jellyfish
Jellyfish have no concept of time
Nor how fleeting it is
(idly, she wished to be a jellyfish)
Well, she isn't a jellyfish
She has some concept of time
Just not how to gauge it
Perhaps, at some point,
They'd, go to the Aquarium again, together
Before time is up
Moon jellies being
A staple of her memories
As she'd muse.
