A question was asked, "Who are you?" A question asked with uncertainty. There was a hint of fear and treason within that question. As if it was one that shouldn't need to be asked.

The one who answered the question put his finger in front of his lips and whispered, "Quiet. The dead is sleeping."

Then, everything went in slow motion as the question was answered by action rather than words. The mind of the fearful man who asked the other one wandered to the past as he wondered how this happened. He had a feeling it all began six months ago.

Prologue: How?

The beeping sound echoed in the mind of a man who rested under the bed sheet. His chest, left arm and his two legs covered with bandages. Behind the sound of the beep of the electrocardiograph, the man heard an echo. The echo of a wild beast. With his eyes, he saw the white celling of an hospital, judging by the beeping sound. However, he also saw something whose jaw split opened and the dead eyes of someone important to him.

He was a Caucasian man with pale blue eyes and short blond hair. He closed his eyes and focused. His mind was still confused how where was the present.

He took deep breath. He opened his eyes and looked at the ceiling. It was still a sealing, but the other thing he saw, returned to the past. He painfully grunted as he sat on the bed.

A woman came in with her green nurse uniform, "You are up," she approached him and checked if everything was okay.

"Y-yeah," he put his hand on his forehead as he focused on the present. The echo of the beast also left. He was fully on the present, not the past. He didn't hear many things the nurse said. He eventually interrupted, "H-how long was I gone?"

"You've been unconscious for two days."

"And Julius? My friend? W-where is he?"

"He was already up and left to get something. He should be back soon," the nurse replied.

"Already?" he dropped back on his bed, "He's okay?"

"He has superficial wound, but he isn't sure how to explain what happened that night. The detective already asked him a few questions and he would meet you when you are ready."

"N-not today," the man replied as he closed his eyes and waited.

He didn't hear the rest of what the nurse had to say. He just knew she told him he was okay and would be able to leave the hospital soon. That he was lucky his wounds weren't deep.

"You're back Alister!" someone told him.

"Julius," relief rushed into him when he saw his friend with a bandage on his forehead and nothing more.

Julius was a Caucasian man with brown eyes, short brown hair, a birthmark that looked like a star under his left eye.

Alister was just so happy to see that his best friend was okay, "That's not an experiment I want to relieve," he looked in the eyes of his friend. He saw Julius smile. Alister happiness was lessened somehow.

After two seconds, the other man replied, "Right. We almost died back then," he sat on his bed and offered a small bread, "Everything taste like vomit here," he joked.

"Yeah," he munched the piece of bread. The two spoke little of the event that brought them here. They both panted to leave it to the past, until the detective came, "What did you tell the detective?" The past couldn't be left for long anyway.

"That we were attacked by wild beasts. I still don't know what happened, but it was such a weird and cool creature," Julius commented. He let out a small smile.

Alister sighed, "I don't want to think about a creature like that as weird or cool as you said that detective."

"Never said that part. Too weird anyway."

The other man froze when the image of the past came back hunting him. He couldn't push it aside as he looked straight in the eyes of Julius.

Last time he saw those eyes, it was lifeless eyes. The eyes of someone who left this world. The eyes of Julius that told him that he was gone. The wild beast that came to finish him neck. He froze as another time flashed in front of his eyes. Another weird thing that came and slayed the beasts.

Alister went in deep thought, (Julius is here and alive. Why am I thinking that? What's going on?) he grumbled as he lost focus on reality with those questions. He didn't notice that his best friend put a hand on his shoulder and asked if he was okay, (That beast was real, those dead eyes might be too. But Julius is here with me. He's normal. His smile is a bit weird, but we survived those things. He is the same.) He pushed that weird doubt aside. It was just an hallucination from the moment. Imagining the worse scenario before he died. He saw weird things that moment.

He pushed the past back to the past and returned to reality, "W-what?"

"You were gone for a while? Want to talk about it?"

"Naw. Guess my brain is crazy with what happened that night," he closed his eyes, "Need to rest. Maybe it will be fine tomorrow."

"Okay," Julius left him on his own and decided to do the same.

The two felt asleep. The past pushed in the past.
