She was coughing
Coughing hard enough
To vomit
Her head was throbbing
She was somewhat spasming
Her nose was burning
She had a stabbing pain in her throat
With each coughing fit, it felt like it could tear
Would this cough do her in?
She didn't know
She was coughing hard enough to vomit
Her head was throbbing
This was agony
And it was hurting to breathe
She's had coughing fits
But this one was severe
Severe enough
To ache her head and void her stomach
Her throat was hurting
Burning, with a sharp, almost stabbing pain
Each cough felt
As though it would tear her throat
In her fear, she wondered if it did
And if she'd bleed as she slept
Picturing a lonely, terrifying end
Of painful breathing, a throbbing head, vomit
And blood mixed with thick phlegmy saliva
Before stillness
In a never-ending slumber
As she struggled, she was praying
Praying that she'd awake the next day.
