MELODIES OF LOVE
She plays for him, but he's far from here.
Her notes fall softly like drops of rain,
Or secret, silent tears.
Not one listener hears the music of her heart,
Her reputation shines like silver,
Bright and cold.
Playing the sweet notes crisply and with feeling,
She wears her proudest face for each performance,
Pouring out her pain in melodies of love.
At last the night is over,
The last note dies.
At last she is alone,
And then she cries.
Longing for the melodies so sweet and clear,
Longing for the man who will not hear.
