JUST FOR THE RECORD - Not everyone that reads my poetry celebrates Christmas like me. Some of my readers celebrate Hanukkah while others celebrate Kwanzaa. For any of my readers that celebrate Kwanzaa, I wrote this little poem that explains and teaches about the seven principles of Kwanzaa. In my opinion, it is unique because it starts and ends with a haiku.
If you don't celebrate Kwanzaa, but are still fascinated by the history of the holiday, that's OK. This poem will be fun either way. It may not be the best holiday poem I wrote, but I tried with the setup.
Seven Principles,
The Seven Nights of Kwanzaa
Each meaning of life.
What is Unity?
Umoja!
Strive for unity for family and all!
What is speaking out for ourselves?
Kujichagulia!
Define, name, create, and speak for ourselves all!
What is community?
Ujima!
Come together, community all!
What is economics?
Ujamaa!
Build and maintain profit together!
What is purpose?
Nia!
Restore people together!
What is creativity?
Kuumba!
Create and build up together!
What is faith?
Imani!
Believe with your hearts together!
Seven Principles,
The Seven Nights of Kwanzaa
Each meaning of life.
So, that was my Kwanzaa poem.
Yeah, I celebrate Christmas, but like I said in the beginning notes, not everyone celebrates the same holiday. Anyways, I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season no matter where you are or what you celebrate! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
