Days Of Galligarn

Part 1

Description:

People thought that the future was going to be everything: Computers, flying cars...People thought the future would be like the show, "The Jetsens." Well, it isn't. Sure we see re-runs of old shows, and we like to laugh. But, when it deals with the future, we just get depressed. You are reading right. I live in the year 3,021...better known as the Days Of Galligarn.

The Story Begins:

My name is Airlen. Doomsday has struck again, Y2K hit, the sun finally exploded. That is how you can describe the way Earth now looks. Sure none of that stuff has really happened, but that is the way life is now. Everything is nothing but slums, dark alleys, and poorly made buildings. Everywhere you look there is something bad happening. People are getting killed, getting into fights, or just not being treated fairly. But, there are a few lucky ones out there, and I am one of them.

I am a growing boy with a mother and a Border Collie named Sky. I have dark brown crisp hair, brown eyes, and a nice build for my age. I live in a three-roomed building with a kitchen, a bedroom, and a dining room. Look at all I got, and I'm considered lucky. Some of the kids my age don't even have homes. Some don't even have families. My mother usually comes home late from work at night just to support me and Sky.

Well, I was very happy because my Mom got enough money to spend a full day with me. We were walking into the center of town which looked no nicer than my home. A poor built building with some nice stores in the inside, not on the outside. When we got out of the P.A.G., one of the coolest clothing stores, my mom suggested we start to head home. On our way home we encountered a couple of guys in black leather. My mom and I knew they were trouble. So, we started to head the other way.

"Don't move," one of the guys said. There were three of them. One had a gun pointing at my mom. "Tell your kid to come here!"

"No," my mom answered. The man cocked the gun and pushed it against her head.

"Do you know who your dealing with lady?" the man asked. My mom nodded and kicked the guy in the stomach. He fell down to the ground. She took his gun and hit it on the back of his head.

"Run Airlen!" my mom shouted. So, I ran thinking my mom was right behind me. Than, I came to a sudden stop at the sound of bullets. I turned around and saw my mom fall down to the floor with blood gushing out of her head. I took a few steps back in shock. My eyes filled with tears. I then saw the guy cock the gun and he pointed at me. So, I ran down the street yelling for help.

I awoke in a dark alley and a kid that looked about my age was sitting down on some rock. He was dressed in rags. He had long brown hair and green eyes.

"You up yet, kid?"

"Yeah. What happened?" I said rubbing the back of my head. "Where am I?"

"You nearly passed out from runnin' so hard." The kid said. "My name is Primaris. You are now one of us."

"One of who?" I said. Then, I saw a beautiful girl with blonde hair step out behind a wall that made the shape of the dark alley. She was thin and beautiful. She just wore some blue Capris and a white Tank Top. Yup, fashion never dies from the past!

"Hey. My name is Hila," she said. "And this is Morse and Leesie." Hila introduced me to a kid my height. He had dark skin and brown eyes. She then introduced me to a girl with reddish-brown hair and blue eyes. She was dressed in rags just like everyone else except for me and Hila.

"Yeah kid. You are one of us. The children without families. You're lucky I found ya, kid," Primaris said. Then, I remembered what happened. Mother! I thought in my head.

"No! Take me back to my mother! Where is she?"

"She's dead, kid. You saw it happen. I did, too. Nothing gets past me," Primaris said in a dry voice. Then I heard barking. Up from behind came Sky. I was so glad to see him.

"Oh Sky!" I said. I gave him a big hug, and he licked me. I patted him on the head as I turned my attention to Primaris and everybody else. "Sorry, but just because you don't have a family and a home like I do, doesn't mean-"

"Kid! You are homeless now. If you go back home, the cops will find you and put you in their little foster homes. And they are no picnic. They shape you up there. They turn you into their officers. You are better off with us. The mutt can stay," Primaris said.

"He is not any mutt. He's my dog. He's part of my family. Just like my mom still is!" I yelled. I turned my attention away from them. I then felt a hand on my shoulder. It was a soft hand. When I turned around, Hila's eyes were gazing into mine.

"It is going to be okay. It will be hard for you to adjust, just like it was for all of us. But you eventually will. I promise," Hila said. She sounded so convincing. Too convincing. "Tell us. What's your name?"

"Airlen." I answered. So, this was my family. I wasn't so sure if I was going to like it. But I had no other choice. These were my kind now. I was one of them, a kid with a demented family. Sky was there, too. Some day, some how, these Days Of Galligarn will be over. And I hope to end it, just like Hila, Primaris, Morse, and Leesie. And when the wizard Propriet showed up, we knew it would happen.
